+Tahoe Skier5000
Honestly, you can find great, inexpensive cables off of eBay. I'd recommend a guy named 'rnrplace'. I purchased one two weeks ago and in many ways it's better than the OEM cable that Garmin sells. $6.85 for the cable, $7.00 for shipping to the UK (Global Priority). +DomHeknows
alternatively look at http://tinyurl.com/2ducq (ebay link) to a uk query for "etrex data cable" - looks like they are coming in at £10 Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
Hmmmmmmm... $14.00 in the U.S. including shipping. That's £7.55 - including shipping! Compare that to $27.52 - or £14.99 including shipping. That makes it about 1/2 price buying it in the U.S. (YAHOO.com Currency Conversion) Edited May 31, 2004 by Neo_Geo Quote Link to comment
spexmaniac
the cheapest "proper retailer" is gps wharehouse they have there own range (about £20), but they are usually half the price again if bought on ebay. yes stuff is much cheaper from the US, BUT if it gets picked up by customs expect to pay import duty of 5 or6% and VAT on the total including the import duty! you'll probably be lucky with a lead, machines I think they will spot! Duty and VAT should only be applied if the value of the goods is over £18. If the item is a 'gift' and it is marked on the package as such (hint!) and the value of the goods is under £36 then again Duty and VAT is not applied. +DomHeknows
AND the £3-£5 the postie will charge you for paying the customs charge on your behalf. You should also find the uk sellers will get you the lead quicker than from the states. (and credit card companies will charge 2.5% commission on foreign currency transactions) but US is cheaper :-) Quote Link to comment
+leecee
Thanks for all the replies. I've sourced one from the UK at 8.50 plus postage, which I thought was very reasonable. Quote Link to comment
+Skyrunner
Anychance of sharing where you got it from, as I am after a cheap cable, but don't want to have to resort to buying form the US? Quote Link to comment
