MacBandit
When installing Mapsource map data onto my computer how do I do a full install so I do not need to put the CD in every time I want to look at specific maps? For example with TopoUSA it gives you the option of limited or standard install in the installation software but no full install option. I'm sick of having to swap CDs every time I go to a new area of the US or a different Map Source product all together. Quote Link to comment
+Phone guy
I would like to know this as well. I can load all of the city select SW but not the TOPO. Quote Link to comment

No actually I am installing it within VirtualPC so it will be the same as installing on a PC. Thanks I'll try that. Quote Link to comment
+JDan150
I have dun this by making a file named topo and copying disk 1, 2, and 3 into it so I ended up with 6 files named Alaska, East, Hawaii, Tdb, UnitCode, And West in the topo folder and then running the setup.exe from there. +Right Wing Wacko
Copy the entire CD to a directory on your disk. Run the install from this directory. By doing this, Mapsource will think that this Directory is the CD Drive and will look here for the Map Files instead of on the CD Rom Drive. Quote Link to comment
MacBandit
Great I'll do this. Thank your for all your responses. Quote Link to comment

+geobernd
Here is what my 'install' folder looks like (I copied all CD's except Hawaii into it). Then I ran the install from the folder instead of from the CD (CD was not in the drive when running the install). I have access to East and West and don't need the CDs at runtime... MacBandit
I think I figured out my problem. I have access to Hawaii, Alaska, West Topos but not the East. I believe it's a problem with the CD. It will bring up the East section and show the map zoomed out but then Mapsource crashes. Everytime from there on out if you load Mapsource it automatically goes to the last map which is the East Topo and it crashes. The only way out of this is to rerun the Topo Setup.exe. I've tried this several times with and without the CD in the drive and many other ways. I just have a bad East Topo disk. Not a problem really since I don't have a need for it also this Topo is many years old and I suspect there is a newer version of it out. It's version 3.00. Quote Link to comment
+Insp Gadget
Strange. I have the Metroguide and Topo maps for Canada and there must have been a Full Install option cause I don't have to use the cd's at all. Are you saying the USa maps are different? Quote Link to comment
+Sparkcha5er
I have US metroguide v5. Took 3gigs for Louisiana up to Canada thats all the city streets that I need for now. Not enough HD for full install Quote Link to comment
kerecsen
I have access to Hawaii, Alaska, West Topos but not the East. It will bring up the East section and show the map zoomed out but then Mapsource crashes. This is a known issue with the Topo map. You can download a patch from Garmin here . Quote Link to comment

+New England n00b
One thing I found is after installing Mapsource TOPO: even though the West CD was CD1, I had to change the directory names so that EAST was in folder CD1 before Mapsource would display the contour maps and such. Dunno why this is, but it worked once I figured it out. Quote Link to comment
MacBandit
I got it working without the patch though I have now gone ahead and applied the patch for Topo. My problem I think stems from me using Virtual PC on a Mac to run MapSource. It appears that if I run any other program or even switch from Virtual PC to another program running on my Mac while it is installing or even when it's copying the CD to the drive I'll end up with glitches. I've recopied the Topo East without disturbing it and it works now. I also had to run a repair on City Select North America and reinstall MapSource 6.1. Everything is working now.
