I just started GISing again at work and my geocaching interest helped me beat out the other job candidate, hehe. Just wondering who out there uses ArcView (or ArcInfo, or Oracle's or SAS's GIS product).

Oh boy, does that take me back! I started working for a GIS start-up magazine in 1989--GIS World. I worked there 2 1/2 years, then I went to work for Genasys, a GIS software company based in Colorado. I had a lot of fun writing and learning about GIS. Haven't kept up with it much, though, in the past 10 years or so. Back in the day, ESRI's ArcInfo was the product to beat. I wonder if that's still the case...

I use it to map employment, population and various demographic densities for the U.S. It is indeed an awesome program. I've used it to create a nice map of the states I have visited while caching but have yet to upload it to my profile page.

We are about to get GIS where I work. I've tried to position myself to be one of the key people. We shall see how well I did in the coming months.

JukieF- As far as I know ArcView has surpassed ArcInfo but they are both ESRI.

Geographic Information System.

 

The City I work for has been using Intergraph since about 1988. We are now using V8 and Geographics.

I'll bet she does so you might ask her and see if she knows anyone who can give you a demonstration.

I use ArcView 3.2 as a hobby. We have a state license for ESRI GIS software for all the schools in South Dakota. I am trying to learn ArcGIS 8.3. I wrote an article on how it is used in schools for Today's Cacher.

I dont use ArcView but I do use a lot of GIS data for cartography from time to time, I usually use random programs I get from the military

Hub and I use ESRI's ArcMAP products daily at work. There are a few other geocachers at work too. I just finished 4 day's training on a mapping tool that uses ArcMAP. I have even done an analysis using ArcMAP to see how many geocaches were in the Provincial Parks. Hub has a GIS diploma & is a GIS specialist, I have a university course and have learned by doing. Geocaching just seemed to be a natural activity for us!
