+TeamG
Is it me or are most of us in the IT industry? I have a theory that at least 1/2 of cachers in the UK, if not more, have some link to the IT industry, i have been looking at some of the bio's of the people who cache in my area and most of them are something IT, i suppose living in Reading(Microsoft and HP to name a few) might have something to with it. Or is it just a case of not being able to resist gadgets? Edited May 13, 2004 by bradonline.co.uk Quote Link to comment

+Firth of Forth
There seem to be a lot of ex-military involved in geocaching - perhaps because they are au fait with navigation techniques and like the outdoors? I've tried to work out why geocaching appeals to some and not at all to others. I think that if you enjoy puzzles, and get a thrill from hunting and finding something, then it is those personality characteristics which will make you a fan of geocaching. No prizes for guessing what my profession is! Quote Link to comment

Last Xmas my grandson asked me what gadget I wanted for a prezzy. I appear to have become a gadget geek. Quote Link to comment
Sparticus
The wife wants to be a nurse Tell her not to do it. Seriously though, I'm suprised at how many health proffesionals there are in this sport. I too am a nurse, and my wife is a primary school teacher. I had a chat with an A+E nurse in the hospital I work in and she told me about a fab new game she found with her uncle, It was called Geocaching. She was shocked to hear that I had been doing it for the last two years. Great, another converted into madness and addiction. Quote Link to comment

MCL
Aside from the mention of me being a gadget-head above, I can admit to being sort-of-in-the-IT-field. I'm a PC consultant, in that I spec and build and maintain PCs for my clients. I'm also a voice-over artist. And a recording engineer. And a DJ. And an office administrator. +Papakas
24 years in the military didn't do me any, any, any, any...... harm! I've had the last 5 years sobering up in civie street managing logisitics projects. They did say I'd have to get used to working for a living! I do find though with my military training and backround I can get more out of geocaching especially when it comes to caching up in the hills where I enjoy this activity the most. I started trigpointing admittedly to improve my COTM score but also because trigs tend to be on the top of hills! Very much looking forward to Aviemore at the end of the month! Quote Link to comment

Interesting subject - I run a family garage services company and design websites on the side - however I would like to be a chef!!! Before joining the family business I helped set up the UK arm of an industrial computer controls company. My wife is a senior R&D scientist so I suppose we are both classed as being in the technology sector. My bet though is its something to do with being addicted to gadgets. Quote Link to comment

I also have my very own client-server network at home, and yes, I'm very much a gadget freak. although, I did get the GPS for a practical purpose, for navigation using a laptop when I used to work for ntl as a field engineer. Found Geocaching twice whilst searching for GPS software. Quote Link to comment

+Team Marigold
Interesting topic. I am sort of a techy. I am a support engineer for a company that makes equipment for the TV broadcast industry but mainly I am a gadget nut and amateur beer taster. The other members of team Marigold: The mapless Navigator works in local government and the Mud magnet is at school. When I got home with the new GPS eyes were cast skyward and I am sure I heard mutters of " Oh he's off on another new hobby. I wonder how long that one will last." But for once I have managed to convert them and now I get pestered to go out caching. Summerlightning Quote Link to comment
