Cache-cadians

This is a thread for the Cache-cadians, the group of geocachers who live in North Central Washington.

This is a place where we can share our geocaching experiences, congratulate fellow geocachers on their milestones and accomplishments, offer advice to newbies, or announce an event, etc.

Let other Cache-cadians know and be sure to click the link "Track This Topic".

Wow, our own thread, how exciting. Now that it is up and going how about discussing when we have our next informal get-together. When, Where, & What should be our goals for it. Barnabirdies have been encouraging me to get another one going and we have a few new cachers in town. Does Sunday May 23 sound okay with y'all, about 5pmish at the regular stop, Abby's? Please give me your suggestions, Yeas, or Neighs. :) (how about that spelling?) ~ Patudles

B) Hey! I think this is cool you guys.

Here I am up in North Seattle/Shoreline area poking my nose into your thread! :)

Seriously... I think it's a good thing. it will be fun to watch you people post and hear what's going on over there.

A thread like this can be positive and fun. The Eastside thread has been that way for a long time.

So have fun! We will be watching and maybe get to know you all a bit better!

Gettting together again sounds fun. The only comment I have about Abby's, was the last time we met there, it was difficult to hear some of the discussions due to the noise (a couple of birthday parties going on as well). But if thats where everyone likes to meet, we'll be there. Just don't be surprised if we say "Huh?" a lot. :)

Hey, I'm all for a different place if you can suggest one. We are so limited here as to places we can meet as a group. Westside Abby's has a meeting room. Any other ideas. Put them on the table.

Wienerdogs always did have pokey noses! Thats cool, poke away, the nosier the better. We read your thread too. I have just been to :) bashful to say much.

Hey, if anyone wants a suggestion on where to go for a good day of geocaching, there's been a bunch of fairly recent hides (last 6 months) along I-90 and over in Issaquah. I found a dozen on Friday last week, and they were all within 10 minutes of the car. My favorite was Reflections on Gold Creek Pond on Snoqualmie Pass. Just going to this one alone would have been worth the trip. Very scenic...good cache too. Here is a photo: 94797_200.jpg

Hope we are doing this right (is there a spell checker?)

The 23rd sounds find with the Barnabirdy(s). We have no ongoing love of Abby's and agree with the Navigatorz about the communications problems. Not that we have any constructive suggestions.

We are off to the San Juan Islands this morning, back Sunday. We hope to make our 600 although too many of the SJ caches seem to have absentgee owners and be in questionable condition.

How do you think Mission Ridge access will be by the weekend of the 23rd?

K&A

Thanks for joining us Robinego and Barnabirdys.

Regarding Barnabirdy's question about Mission Ridge: I'm thinking about trying for A Mountain Home by Ish-n-Isha this weekend. I should be able to give you a snow report then. I know Patudles and friends tried going after my Four Corners cache about 3 weeks ago and ran into 6 inches of snow. On another note, a friend of mine from work drove from Beehive Reservoir over Mission Creek down to Cashmere last weekend, so that means the snow is gone at those elevations at least....time for someone to go after my Rock of Ages :)

Abby's west meeting room may be better. Royal Fork has a side room large enough and quieter. Just a suggestion. There may be others?

The 23rd we will be in Spokane but should be back in time.

Also, I have been speaking to some locals here about a day trip to Yakima sometime soon. Hopefully some sunday when Barnabirdy(s) can come so they can find all the hard micros down there for us all in 5 min!

I specifically asked Flyboy and Slomann about it since I know they always wanted a big day but never can get around to it themselves. If it was a scheduled once in a lifetime thing they might get their wives to let them go!

Weekends are tight for us through the end of may since we have a daughter graduating, so sing out what Sunday might work for you and post it here.

Also some car-pooling might be arranged. I can take at least 2 others, 3 if Isha is hung up doing something else. Actually I have space for more depending on what car I take and how close you like to sit!

Okay, I can make reservations for the room at Royal Fork if people prefer that. The small room only holds approx. 25 people comfortably. I don't think they will let us have the big room on a Sunday. I don't know. Consider reservations made. Any and all who want to come please let me know so I can make changes if needed but I would like a kinda head count. :) ~ Patudles

Reservations are made at the Royal Fork for Sunday, May 23rd at 5 p.m. for a Cache-Cadian informal get together. All locals are encouraged to come and anyone else is welcome to come join us from the Wetside or Desert if they so desire. I just need to get a count of possibilities ASAP so I can changer to the larger room if we need to. The room I have reserved holds 25 comfortably. But if we let them know soon enough we can change our reservations to the large room. :) ~ Patudles

Sounds like fun Ish, except we've found most of the caches in Yakima. I just did an advanced search for zip code 98901 (Yakima) for traditionals excluding caches we've found and only came up with 7 we haven't found yet, and 4 of them were planted in April this year. We hunt Yakima caches quite often when we go there to visit relatives. If we happen to be in Yakima the same weekend you're there, perhaps we can meet up with you guys and do the ones we haven't tried yet.

Ha, ha ha. :o Don't laugh...my husband has always wanted to make a rock climbing cache. Maybe someday he will. Then everyone would have to schedule a time to come with us so that we could help.

Castle Rock is a toughie. I think it is quite easy to get to, but I can see how it could be quite hard for others. Everyone is different in thier physical agility. I didn't want my cache discription to make it sound like it was too hard, so that no one goes to it, yet at the same time, someone could think it was simple and get partway up and not be able to complete it.

Maybe after a couple of people have gone to it, they can tell others what they think.

I KNOW that Ish-n-Isha can do it. Maybe this Saturday, huh? It would only take you an hour or so! :unsure:

Hey Ya'll,

We were in your neck of the woods last weekend and posted our personal best record of DNFs, 15 all told.

The DNFs weren't fun until we got home and started logging them. I hope we made you feel SOOOO bad for us Redmonders. Ya'll have nothing on us. Well, maybe ya'll do. We would actually have to find the caches to make sure.

We got the feeling that ya'll are a close caching community and there is a lot of friendship there. That makes for a lot of fun. Keep it up.

We'll be back to redeem ourselves.

Hey, you guys, am I going to have to get tough and show you that Castle Rock is not so bad. I went three quarters of the way up when Ambrosia placed the cache. The view is fantastical. The only reason I did not go all the way up is because I am scared of heights. There is a path along side the hill that is shale and to avoid it I got All41 to take me a steeper way only to find that it also ended up clinging alongside the hill. :unsure: Thank goodness for my son's strong arm that I could cling to as I shakily came back. Scarey for me but probably a piece of cake for the rest of you folks. By that time I was was too shook up to try the other way. I will be back and try it later. Sooo, just get up there and do it so I don't have to. You know I will do it just to prove a point but I'd rather not right now. ~ Patudles

Snowline update: We made it to A Mountain Home by Ish-n-Isha this evening, Elevation 4875 ft. and didn't see much snow. Just a few little patches. The road is rough with a few little puddles. I wouldn't advise bringing a car, but a pickup truck (non 4WD) would make it fine.

Welcome back any time lucyandrickie. Glad you enjoyed our caches. :unsure:

A word of caution when trying to be First Finder on the new Castle Rock cache. Due to the high altitude, you might experience FTF at High altitude cerebral edema. This is caused by racing to be the first finder in reduced atmospheric pressure and a lower concentration of oxygen at high altitude. It affects the nervous system, lungs, muscles, and heart. Symptoms can range from mild to severe.

Symptoms generally associated with mild to moderate First Finder syndrome at high altitude illness include:

* Headache

* Difficulty sleeping (dreaming about being FTF)

* Loss of appetite

* Nausea or vomiting

* Fatigue

* Dizziness or light-headedness

* Rapid pulse (heart rate)

* Shortness of breath with exertion

* Confusion (but that’s me most of the time)

Symptoms will subside when you find the cache, unless you’re second to find, then symptoms will increase in severity. Remember to descend to lower altitude as rapidly and safely as possible. Supplemental oxygen should also be administered, if available.

:D

Ish-

I would love to join you when you guys go to Yakima, but my Sundays are so full right now. The only ones free at this moment are June 6 and 27. :)

Anyway, I guess if you go on one of those Sundays, I will too (if nothing else comes up before you schedule it).

I went over to the wet side for the weekend squeezed in a few caches and met a few geocachers while out and about, but the best part was on the way home I took in the Reflections on Gold Creek Pond as suggested by Navigatorz. It is an awesome cache. I highly recommend taking the time out of your trip over the mountains to this cache including the complete loop walk around the pond. ~ Patudles

:ph34r: Thanks Navigators for getting us rolling on this forum...We've been having lots of fun finding what you are all hiding...hope you all enjoyed our hides...

BTW...There was this item on Geocaching on TV a few weeks ago...the guy was explaining Geocaching using a 5 Gallon bucket for the cache...of course it was located on one of the big contenental trails..but still my size of cache...just think how easy that bucket would be to find hidden in some park under some bush or tree(ha...ha...)

Way to go Robinego, What a cache to do your 100th on. And all by yourself at that. All41 doesn't want me to do that cache alone. So I will leave it be for now. I have been over half way up on that hill though, to an awesome view. The view of the valley can't get a whole lot better. I know you were really counting on getting first finder on that cache. To bad the cacher before you pulled such a trick. :ph34r: I know he was hoping to encourage others out with the bait of first find by not logging his find of three days ago. But it kinda spoils the fun when you think you will do a first find for a 100th and someone beat you to it days ago and just didn't log it. :) ~ Are you going to beat me to the new caches tomorrow morning? See ya, Friday. ~ Patudles

The Balloon Toss now has the cache coordinates encrypted in the additional hints section. The cache has not seen any visitors in 9 months, so I thought about archiving it, but the location is so nice, that I thought I'd keep it active and include the hint for those who do not want to do the math. Drive up the Burch Mountain road and park your rig on the uphill side and walk down to the cache. Enjoy the view. Congratulations to Ish-n-Isha, Barnabirdys, and Patudles for solving the puzzle last year and finding the cache. (If you look to the west, across the canyon, you'll be looking right across toward Robinego's Robe of Rainbows cache.).

Another Cache-cadian event finished. Wow, it is sure fun meeting new cachers in our area. Plus a great hi-light to have visitors from over the hill come also. Great to have Right Wing Wacko join us. He thought he would come over and dry out and we fooled him. Also, I have noticed a new cacher in our valley, Hiker'guy. So a big warm Cache-cadian welcome to you. <_<

Okay what is our next event to be? A Bar B Que? Campout work event? Lets hear your ideas! ~ Patudles

Just to note, the container for our newest cache Sandstone Formations has been changed from a film canister to a large ammo box (taken from our archived cache generator). Thanks to all who participated in the cache generator and hid some fun and challenging caches, and to those who moved our Navigator travel bugs. One of them is now in Colorado, and were watching their travels. The Navigatorz

:blink: Nice forum page, I was wondering how do you put pictures in with the geocaching page for the Geocache???? Instead of having to look at the picture as an attachment.........

First you'll need to upload an image to your web page.

Then on the edit page, you'll need to check the box that reads "The descriptions below are in HTML"

Then in the Long Description, use the following html:

<IMG SRC="http://web address of the picture you uploaded.JPG" WIDTH=200 HEIGHT=200 BORDER=0>

The width and height can be changed by entering a different number than 200 shown in the above example.

Hope that helps
