+opey one
Couldn't find an answer anywhere else, so here it is. We found a benchmark, but given all of the information provided, it doesn't show up on the database. Anywhere else might I look? Thanks! O1 Quote Link to comment
+1setter
Sorry, but considering all the info you have provided, there may not be much help. Coordinates, description, markings? Quote Link to comment
+Colorado Papa
We found a benchmark, ... Dahhhh...Gee, you must think we are mind readers. Give us something to work with and we might be able to help you. I could not even start by looking at your profile. As 1setter said, Sorry, but considering all the info you have provided, there may not be much help. Coordinates, description, markings? Quote Link to comment
+seventhings
If you know the coordinates +/-, you might try a radial search of marks at http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/datasheet.prl and see if any of the marks in the NGS database conform to the info you have on the mark. Could happen if the mark was monumented very recently, but not very likely. 7 Quote Link to comment
+opey one
Sorry for leaving you guys in the dark on this one. You wouldn't happen to be mind readers would you??? Kidding!! It is a disk marked by the US Geodetic Survey such and such. It is marked "High Knob 2 No.1 1933". The coordinates I'm giving are from a cache placed roughly 300 feet NE of the disk. The coords for the cache are N36 53.578 W082 37.802. Sorry I don't have the grid on the disk itself, as I assumed it would be an easier lookup with the information I found. Thanks again, as I am now getting ready to hit the link provided by seventhings. Quote Link to comment
kc2ixe
OK - That is GA3420, and you found Remote Mark (RM) #1. The reason you had problems finding it in the database is that the actual mark is destroyed. The last entry for it was GA3420 STATION RECOVERY (2003) GA3420 GA3420'RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 2003 (BES) GA3420'THIS MARK WAS DESTROYED BY VANDALS. MARK WAS CHISLED FREE AND GA3420'REMOVED. RECOVERY NOTE SUBMITTED BY US FOREST SERVICE. Quote Link to comment

+opey one
Seems fitting that this would be my first benchmark, but surely not my last! Thanks to all for the help! O1 Quote Link to comment
+Black Dog Trackers
Just as a matter of form, I don't know, but should we be logging PIDs without physically going near the coordinates? Quote Link to comment
+GEO*Trailblazer 1
I would not unless I was physically there, and with me a GPS. sometimes a witness or 2. As you can see on some of my lacking photo's I am slowly filling them in. Wish I would have had a good camera to start with. Did have a GPS though. $$$$$$$$$ to little of em. Quote Link to comment
