Info On A Benchmark

Couldn't find an answer anywhere else, so here it is.

 

We found a benchmark, but given all of the information provided, it doesn't show up on the database. Anywhere else might I look? Thanks! O1

Gee, you must think we are mind readers. Give us something to work with and we might be able to help you. I could not even start by looking at your profile. As 1setter said,

If you know the coordinates +/-, you might try a radial search of marks at

 

http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/datasheet.prl

 

and see if any of the marks in the NGS database conform to the info you have on the mark. Could happen if the mark was monumented very recently, but not very likely.

It is a disk marked by the US Geodetic Survey such and such. It is marked "High Knob 2 No.1 1933".

 

The coordinates I'm giving are from a cache placed roughly 300 feet NE of the disk.

 

The coords for the cache are N36 53.578 W082 37.802. Sorry I don't have the grid on the disk itself, as I assumed it would be an easier lookup with the information I found.

OK - That is GA3420, and you found Remote Mark (RM) #1. The reason you had problems finding it in the database is that the actual mark is destroyed. The last entry for it was

Just as a matter of form, I don't know, but should we be logging PIDs without physically going near the coordinates?

I would not unless I was physically there,and with me a GPS.

sometimes a witness or 2.

As you can see on some of my lacking photo's I am slowly filling them in.

Wish I would have had a good camera to start with.

Did have a GPS though.
