What's You Favourite Cache?

So tell us what your favourite cache was/is. We are definitely not qualified to offer an opinion but some of you caching veterans must be able to point to some great caches.

This might be something else that Deego could add to his site?

There was a vote on GeocacheUK a while back, posibly still running? where you could add your own favourite, perhaps you could try and get the results of that.

My own favourite is cache: GCBEC

but I dont know where you live so that might be miles away

Luckily we live in the middle of the country so no more than 7 hours (apart from Bank Holidays  ) from anywhere in the country and two hours from east or west coasts!

We've only done 171 caches since we started caching in August last year, so we're hardly veterans and it's so difficult to choose only one favourite! I think it's fair to say we've enjoyed every cache we've found (with only one exception which shall remain nameless!)

We love hill/fell walking so our favourites would have to be because of the climb and the views. We are lucky enough to live in North Yorkshire and there's some lovely caches in the Dales and on the Moors, including the 3 peaks in Ribblesdale (there's a cache on top of each one) and the Cleveland Way round the Moors, not to mention the Lake District which is not too far away from us.

Last Sunday we climbed Pen-y-ghent GC5EF2 and bagged 2 caches as there's one at the summit and one on the way up at Hull Pot GCGZPF.

We also really enjoyed Wainstones GCHFN5, The Kitchen GCG9D4, How Tallon GCFA6E and The Ribble Series #7 - Victoria Cave GCGZPA for the walk and the views.

Over in the Lake District, we enjoyed Swineside GCG02P, Grasmere View GCGQTC and Kirkstone Pass GCH0JN... again, for the views.

For different reasons we enjoyed Go Forth GC6DAB as it's an island in the Firth of Forth, reached at low tide by a causeway; Halfway Raw GC398D and A Bridge too far... GCHR2T because of having to put our thinking caps on!!!

I've set myself the challenge of finding every cache in North Yorkshire which is the biggest county in England and (currently) has over 130 caches. Part of the enjoyment is that they are very diverse in type and hiding place as some are easy urban virtuals and some are 5 star terrain mountains!!!

Oh go on - pray tell! Or should we start a thread for the 'Worst Cache in the UK?'

Disgwylfa in Central Wales. So far, I think I'm correct in saying that it's only been visited 6 times and given its location in a remote part of Wales, it's not surprising. It's a big effort to reach the recommended parking spots then even more effort to walk to the cache in difficult terrain for those not used to hill-walking. Certainly not one for the cache'n' dash enthusiasts !

Cut Down Cache comes a very close second, but for different reasons which will only really be apparent to those who've done it ! I'll probably review this assessment in a couple of weeks' time when we intend to visit the Forest of Bowland and the Yorkshire Dales, ostensibly for some hill-walking and pot-holing, but the walking routes will undoubtedly be based around cache sites !

Nah! That wouldn't be very sportsmanlike!

Without a shadow of a doubt, it's got to be Wildcat, which I did for my 100th.

For pure experience, my favourite has been Viikinsaari, even though we didn't even get close to the cache. We're returning in summer to find it, although our mode of transport will have to be different!

In the UK, I think it has to be Lullington Church. Not a difficult cache, but a very interesting location.

Cheers,

That'll take us a few years to find then

I'm pretty sure the cache won't last that long anyway!!!

(btw... I tried adding you to my MSN messenger but the email was returned :o )

Leoness - sent you an Email.

I see Seasider is not afraid to point out the 'bad' caches :D . Check out his top ten page.:D:o

Tiny bug in these pages - at the bottom of page one there is a link to page two, at the bottom of page three there are links to pages two and four, but on page two there are links to page two and three instead of one and three... ;)

HTH :o

Greate site otherwise! :D

Currently my best cache would be...

Fishermans Walk

Only by approaching from the South though - nothing can beat holding onto a single piece of metal knocked idly into a rockface when you are by the side of a raging Welsh river!

Not painful but surprisingly dangerous!

Basically the path that runs South of the cache literally clings onto the rock face. Boardwalks have been built in some places, in others you have to face your fear and with all of your weight swing yourself around part of the cliff face with sharp rocks and river below you.

See my log:

Unfortunately (due to reasons I won't go into) I was really miserable whilst doing this one, but looking back it was a truly great cache.

If it ivolves heights and deeds of daringdoo! then I'm out

Seriously the High Tor in Matlock scared the bejeebers out of me and I didn't even know there was a cache nearby - we were out for a walk and thinking "this would be a nice place for a cache". I didn't like the name of the place as it was (I have blanked it out but it was something like "wobbly knee cliff" or something similar.

Come to Scotland peeps for the bestest and most diverse of caches...mind you I only ventured south once and thoroughly enjoyed Hartside pass. Now i know what the border reivers were so addicted to.
