+The Cheeseheads
(2R cubed - 8)/9 = 120/9so, what does R =? Still having trouble with Enigma? Throw out the nines, since they're in the denominator on both sides. Add eight to both sides to get 2R^3=128 Divide by 2 to get R^3=64 Take the cube root of both sides to get R=4. Good luck with the puzzle! You're really going to hate ? Quote Link to comment
vinced
(2R cubed - 8)/9 = 120/9so, what does R =? If I understand the question: ((2R)^3-8)/9=120/9 (2R)^3-8=120 (2R)^3=128 2R=5.0396841995794926590688424291129 R=2.5198420997897463295344212145565 or is it (2(R^3)-8)/9=120/9 2(R^3)-8=120 2(R^3)=128 R^3=64 R=4 I didn't know if you are cubing 2R or just R. It's called order of operations. Exponents first, then multiply or divide, last add or subtract. I understand order of operations (I use to be a math minor and tutor). I wasn’t sure because of the way it was written in the question. To me at first it looked like 2R was to be squared not just R. This is why I have both of my interpretations of the problem. I realize it would have made more sense in a textbook. Quote Link to comment
