thorin
Ok so I've decided on a Gecko 201 for my first GPS, but the big question is. How do I find out which local stores have the revised version with the "better" power button. Is it simply "lower" Is the casing molded up around it? Is there a different model # on the packaging? Is it a certain range of serial #s? I called a few stores but none of them were sure if they had the revised version or the original. Thorin Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
Garmin should be able to tell you what serial number range (or date of manufacture) they started doing that with. Quote Link to comment

+CurmudgeonlyGal
Here are a couple photos of the recessed power button in the Geko 201: My guess is that you want to look for the power button with the dimple, and the little 'ridge' around the outside of said button. -=- michelle Quote Link to comment

thorin
Thanks soooo much those pictures were imensly (sp?) helpful. Thanks alot! I picked up my Gecko tonight. Got CanadianTire (reg $199) to pricematch a local store called Lebaron (www.lebaron.ca) @ $185.63 plus I got 10% extra CanadianTire money back at the end (~$21) so it ended up being about $164+tax. I'm happy playing with it for now I'll make a data cable in a few days: http://www.jens-seiler.de/etrex/datacable.html Thanks all! Thorin Quote Link to comment

+SandRaven
My Geko 201 has the little ridge (bought in Jan 04), but I still had problems with the unit turning itself on in my pocket. My solution was to add a very thin coating from a hot glue gun. This increases the resistance required to push the button. Now I have no problems whatsoever. And if you don't like the way it come out, you can peel it off without too much trouble. Quote Link to comment
