+New England n00b
Hey all. I don't know if it has been mentioned before, but since I just revived my old Palm III (score!) I found I had lost the Desktop software CD. It is still available for download from their website, though a bit tricky to find. The latest version allows you to set up HotSynch so that it only grabs the serial port when the desktop software is running. I have read many posts advising people to shut off HotSynch in order to communicate with their serial port GPS unit. I thought this might be some nice info for those who don't want to hassle with it all the time, or in my case, want it loaded up at start-up. I have a laptop, and the less running all the time the better! Anyway, hope that helps someone out there.... (BTW - the download was free). Good luck! Actually, I think it's always been there. The downside is that you have to fire up the desktop software before you can sync. But for those who hotsync, that's a very good tip. Thanks for pointing that out. Quote Link to comment
+Maeglin
Even easier than that is just turning off Hotsync's use of the serial port before using the GPS with it. At least, the Windows version of Hotsync, you can do that. The ports it knows of are listed there... check one to enable it, uncheck to disable. When you're done with the GPS, just turn the port back on for HotSync. Quote Link to comment
