+PandyBat
How do I find out if a cache has already been hidden in or near a place that I would like to hide a cache? I'd hate to go out and set it all up only to find that there is another one close by and it's not going to be approved. Quote Link to comment
GeoFD
CHECK OUT GEOCACHING.COM, CLICK ON HIDE AND SEEK A CACHE. ENTER YOUR ZIP CODE. THAT WILL GIVE YOU ALL YOUR NEAREST CACHES. IF YOU DONT SEE ONE IN THAT SPOT GO FOR IT! Quote Link to comment
+PandyBat
Well, I know how to do that. But I'm not sure how to pinpoint an exact location. Quote Link to comment
+sTeamTraen
Well, I know how to do that. But I'm not sure how to pinpoint an exact location. You could put the waypoint of the existing cache into your GPS, then visit the site where you intend to leave your cache, and have the GPS measure the distance. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
I have the 500 caches closest to my home in my GPS and just do a search on nearest waypoint when I find a spot I like. The cache maps on GC.COM also help. Another way is to use mapping sofware and upload all the waypoints to your map, so you can see where all the caches are. One more way would be to get the coordinates to the spot where you plan to place the cache and do a coodinate search on the GC.COM website. It will list the nearby caches and their distance from those cordinates. Edited April 28, 2004 by briansnat Quote Link to comment
+bons
Well, I know how to do that. But I'm not sure how to pinpoint an exact location. Since you need to be .1 mile away from the other caches, the exact location really isn't much of an issue. If it was 50' that would be another story, but 528' is plenty of distance. One note: If you don't do the local multis you run the risk of placeing your cache next to one of them. It's not a large risk and you can always move your cache if an approver tells you to. But it's worth noting. Quote Link to comment
GrandpaCannon
You can also search for caches from a particular point. Just put in the proposed cache location in the search area and it will tell you how far away the nearest caches are. Quote Link to comment
