Pocketpc + Gps Cable Woes!!!

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have an HP Jornada pocketPC device, and a magellan Meridian that I want to couple together to use Mapopolis and such.

but the serial cables for both devices are intended to connect them to a desktop... what i mean is the end of both cables is a female connector, so I can't hook them together. If I just put a gender change on there will it work? or do i need to buy (yet another) cable?

thanks a million to all!

For a PALM you must use a Gender Changer and a Null Modem Adapter. Not sure on Pocket PC but I would say probably.

Sledgehamster is right. The null modem adapter will route the transmit signal from one to the receive conducter on the other. You can buy combination gender changer/null modem at RadioShack or other computer stores.

More info on null modem adapters here.

Which software are you using on your Jornada?

I am happily using an antique Palm with cachemate, but its memory is severely limited. My son will let me use his much newer HP Jornada, if I can figure out which software it will run...

If your HP Jornada runs Pocket PC 2002 or 2003 then you're in luck and you can use GpxSonar. It will allow you to write waypoints to the SD card of the Meridian directly. This implies that the Jornada has an SD card slot of course.
