+New England n00b
Just a quick question: How do you view the topogrhic contour lines in Mapsource on the PC? I am using Mapsource TOPO, the 1:100k scale map version. I can't seem to view any details, and I don't have my manual here. Help? *whimper* Link to comment
+Mark.B
Select View and then Check GPS Map Detail. This will add the contour lines. Link to comment
+New England n00b
Yeah, I did that and all that happened is that highway route numbers & all text (towns, etc.) disappeared. I zoomed in thinking that would do it, but... nada... ????? Link to comment
+Moose-r-us and MrEdden
Maybe try turning up the map detail. EDIT->PREFERENCES->DISPLAY Link to comment
Vlad
there's a dropdown box at the top of the mapsource window where you can pick the map product you want to view - make sure topo is selected there Link to comment
+New England n00b
Hmm... double checked all that. The only thing i can think of is that I have not yet attached my Legend to the PC while Mapsource is running (I need to find the cable... argh...). If that doesn't do it, time to call upon Garmin. Thanks y'all... Any other ideas are much appreciated. Link to comment
+wandering4cache
Have you unlocked the software? I had unlocked it in our computer under my sign-in -- and could view details fine. Hubby had not unlocked the same software under HIS sign-in....and he couldn't get any details until he did the unlock. Maybe?? Link to comment
+TresOkies
There are two places to turn on map detail. The first is in the preferences dialog with the slider bar. The second is on the "View" menu. The "View Map Detail" must be turned on as well as having the slider set to an appropriate value. -E Link to comment
+Alan2
Do you have the disk in the CD-ROM drive? or copied onto your hard drive? IF neither, you can select topo from the pull down window but you'll only get the base road map. Alan Edited April 24, 2004 by Alan2 Link to comment
SergZak
The only thing i can think of is that I have not yet attached my Legend to the PC while Mapsource is running (I need to find the cable... argh...) You don't need to have the GPS connected to the PC while MapSource is running except to exchange data between the two. Did you in fact install the map data for the area that you are interested in? Also, U.S. Topo 1:100k does not require any type of unlock code to be entered. Link to comment
+New England n00b
Oops - I found out my problem after connecting my GPS and getting error messages that clued me in. I copied the CD's to my hard drive, but it was looking for TOPO-EAST to be CD1, not CD2. Strange, because teh setup CD, which i would assume to CD1, was the TOPO-WEST... Anyway, renaming the cd directories to what they program wanted fixed it up perfectly. Thanks for the replies! I will close this now as I was able to figure out my problem through a error message deduction. I appreciate all your help! Link to comment
