+rock33
Spring gobbler in PA starts statewide this weekend with the Youth Spring Turkey hunt. The regular season starts May 1 and runs until May 29. Hunting hours are 1/2 hour before sunrise until noon. If you are caching during this time it would be a good idea to wear fluorescent orange. Quote Link to comment

+Salvelinus
Good advice Rock! As you know, a 190 pound man in drab cloths, bending over or crouching, while flashing a hint of blue or red can easily look like a turkey in springtime. The high number of accidental shootings during the spring gobbler season was the main reason for the orange requirement to be instituted. Wear your orange. Better yet, stay out of the gamelands until noon during late April and May. Those lands are purchased with hunter's $$$ primarily for hunting. Let them have it when they are there doing their thing. +cache chasers
It's not only a good idea to wear floresent orange; it is the law in PA. Even if you are not hunting you are required to have at least 100 square inches of orange on your head. It's the safest way to do it and besides that if an accident happend involving a cacher or cachers interfering with hunters wouldn't help matters any with the caching on gamelands. We've always tried to avoid gamelands during any hunting for these reasons. Quote Link to comment
Field-N-Water
I must say you folks do show a lot of respect if not for the turkey hunter, then for your own saftey. Not saying all turkey hunters are safe but for the most part you have nothing to worry about. I dont think you will be gobbling while caching and the spring turkey season only allows the turkey hunter to hunt the male birds, so female cachers are safe. By all means, avoid colors such as red, blue and or white during this timem ( the color of a male turkey's head). If you do here a turkey in the woods it's a good chance it might be a hunter and the best thing to do is go away from the sound instead of investigating it. Another thing, if you get to a parking area of game lands and there is a car there, it's a good chance it is a turkey hunter. If you happen to bump into a turkey hunter, tell them all about geocahing, becuase most turkey hunters own GPS's and have no clue about geocaching. Quote Link to comment
Rahj
This is way too easy. Stay out of the game lands during Turkey season. These hunters are the same guys that were successful in getting mountain bikers out of the game lands..................geocaching will be next if you tick them off. Go caching in the afternoon and on Sunday. Quote Link to comment
