+Johnnie Stalkers
We have kicked around the idea of a Dark Tower (Stephen King's series) themed cache / series of caches for a few months now. We know pretty much how we want to do this and where everything will go. No theme on trade items, we are just using the story as inspiration for the hide. I would like to gauge cacher interest in such a cache. If you are or are not a King fan, would you hunt this cache? Any opinions about these types of caches? +Divine
Go for it. I'm not particularly a King fan, but I've enjoyed my share of his books (not Dark Tower, though). If I lived closer to you I'd certainly go look for it. I've also thought and planned a fictional themed cache, but haven't just done it. Maybe some day.... Quote Link to comment
WH
Im not particularly picky about the caches I look for. If you hide it, I will seek it. Quote Link to comment
+Harrald
You may get a better feel about the acceptance of this cache by posting this in your regional forum. On another note. I have read that series and would hunt it. Then again I hunt just about everything. Quote Link to comment
+Navdog
I have seen quite a few caches with a story, and done a few myself. I think what is just as important as the story, is to find a location for the cache that ties it in with the story in some way and does it justice. Quote Link to comment
+geoguyver
Great series of books! I know I would hunt those down, just so I would not be accused of "forgetting the face of my father". It's a Dark Tower thing. Quote Link to comment
+rusty_tlc
Gotta be better than a HP Lovecraft theme. Quote Link to comment
+Gizmo & Brazin
I would love to do a cache such as this, as long as the reading of the book wasn't something that would effect the outcome of being able to find the cache. It sound like a fun idea! Quote Link to comment
+clearpath
JS - if you make the cache then I have know doubt it will be a good one. If I lived in your neck of the woods, I would definitetly look for the cache. As far as Stephen King, I have read many of his books and liked them (The Stand, Shining, It, Carrie, Cujo, Firestarter, Needful Things, Salems Lot, ...just to name a few) however I did not get hooked on the Dark Tower series. Maybe someday I can pick it back up. Quote Link to comment
+Johnnie Stalkers
Having read the books will not be required, although there will be a few subtle things that fans of the series will understand and hopefully enjoy. For those of you who have not read the series, it is a must read for a King fan. This is King's masterpiece and very likely the last bit of fiction he will publish. The last 2 books of the series are completed and due to be released this year. Quote Link to comment
+GoaTSniFFer
Anything with a theme, I think is great! Quote Link to comment
+rusty_tlc
Having read the books will not be required, ...... Why not? You liked the books enough to think about a themed cache. Maybe somebody elese would to. There is nothing wrong with reading a book printed on real paper. It is an activity that should be encouraged. Quote Link to comment
Dinoprophet
I have read many of his books and liked them (The Stand, Shining, It, Carrie, Cujo, Firestarter, Needful Things, Salems Lot, ...just to name a few) however I did not get hooked on the Dark Tower series. Looking at your list there, you've already unknowingly read at least two of them! I like the series a lot and would love to do a cache based on it. Quote Link to comment
Pat_in_Utah
OH, I thought it was a Milton Bradley Dark Tower Theme (first PC board game) - that would be cool too! Have not read the books - toooo scary! It would be cool if the hunt were kinda scary too? Pat Quote Link to comment
+Johnnie Stalkers
Have not read the books - toooo scary! It would be cool if the hunt were kinda scary too? Pat The Dark Tower series isn't really scary. More Shawshank Redemption than The Shinning. It is the ultimate cache hunt. Roland and his Ka-tet (group bound by destiny) are searching for the Dark Tower. I'll leave the rest up to your imaginations....you could always go read the books....hint hint. Quote Link to comment
+Red Clover
As one of the avid readers that all but howled w/ frustration while waiting for freaking ever for #4 I'm foaming at the mouth for the Song of Savannah to hit the shelves. I would call out of work .. tell my family I was going to an abbey .. and revel in the hunt. Cast your nets, wanderers! Try me with your "caches", and let the contest begin. Now if only you weren't in Midworld I'd have a chance to actually hunt them! Edited April 19, 2004 by Red Clover Quote Link to comment
+tanders
I think this is an excellent idea for a theme cache as The Dark tower series is my all time favorite. Now, could you just move to Upstate NY and place it there!! Quote Link to comment
Dinoprophet
Gotta be better than a HP Lovecraft theme. Ooo, do you know of any (other than the virtual at his grave)? Quote Link to comment
+Snoogans
This thread just shows to go ya that some things should be brought back up for discussion. No one much cared when I brought it up 2 months ago. I think it's a cool idea. I have a heavy glass rose that I plan to use for an upcoming Dark Tower themed cache. Sn gans Quote Link to comment
