Geocacher Possibly Saves A Life

Recommended Posts

Great story, reminds me of a while back somewhere out near mountains, a kid was playing with some of his friends with an FRS radio, and he heard this really faint voice. It turns out that like 10-15 miles away from the kid, there was a guy stuck on a cliff. Funny how the FRS radios are only supposed to work 2-5 miles, but that signal got so far. I guess it's just the miracle of technology.

I would like to personally congratulate the guys who found the missing dude...

Maby a sign is needed to stop something like this from happenign again. They also should block the mine off (if it is not operational that is).

I'm all about not blocking off mines and not helping stupid people. If we continue to protect stupid people and allow them to breed the human race is doomed. I say we drill more mines with pits and help to rid the world of stupid people.

All these people feel good about saving this stupid person. It's a waste of manpower. I have firewood that needs cutting and these people could have been put to better use doing that.

My wife and I found a couple thousand dollars worth of prescription drugs (Cialis, Geodon, and others, some shrinkwrapped) stuffed into a trunk near a cacheyesterday. We didn't save anyone's life but it could have gone for the worse. About 100' away was a playground.

Actually, considering that geocachers go just a bit farther off the beaten path, there are probably more stories like these that never make the forums or the press.

Wow.....I assume you are joking. Because I hope you don't make any stupid mistakes anytime soon. This statement may come back to haunt you! (Not that anyone would expect you to admit to it anyway.)

Nobody's perfect!

Jeremy,

All things considered if you got the drugs out of an area where kids could find them you did save lives. One less OD for my colleagues and I to deal with.

Good job.

Jeremy, that could have saved a life or cost one... someone may need to account for their stuff that's now gone.

There have been other stories about Geocachers getting involved in accidental situations because they were in the right (or wrong) place at the right (or wrong) time. One of my friends found a large drug trafficing drop location... someone else hunting one of my caches found drug associated stuff... and I've heard about a cacher that was asked to verify a dead body. Geocachers are a good example of people becoming aware of their surrounds rather than hiding away in the house.

As far as digging pits as a form of chlorine in the gene pool... I'm not buying it. Fast cars on windy roads alread do that job.

i love that the dispatcher didn't know what coordinates were! wow, to be in that line of work and not know what they are...

i'm glad the 'doc' said to just tell the helicopter pilot the coordinates anyways, that's good quick critical thinking. i probably would've went on an unecessary description "a series of satellites, creating a doppler effect, can be analyzed by a handheld device which plots the units physical location.....", glad he thought quick

Okay, so here's a guy in the woods.. He's got lost. It's got dark. He hits his head, so he's kinda out of it, takes a couple steps and doesn't even realize he's in a mine. Maybe he's suffering from some degree of night blindness.

So since he fell, should we automatically assume he's an idiot, or should we give him the benefit of the doubt and think that maybe something happened to him and that's why he fell?

For all you knew, the guy could have been homeless and tried to take shelter in the cave. Last I knew most homeless people couldn't afford flashlights.
