Caching walking sticks

I'm would like any suggestions on caching walking sticks (protecting them from the elements, good hiding places etc.) keep in mind I live in cental Florida, the heats not bad but, the humidity will kill ya.

I use a collapsible graphite walking stick. This collapses small enough to fit in my suitcase (I travel for a living). This works very well and the walking stick is immune to all sorts of things that wood will be effected by.

I wanted to know about leaving walking sticks at cache sites. I do a little carving and thought that might be a nice thing to leave behind for someone who would appreciate one.

While a hand-carved walking stick would sure be a great prize to find in a cache, it would be hard to leave one without affecting how the cache is hidden. Kinda hard to miss the cache with that walking stick pointing at it!

Maybe try printing up really nice coupons, with an email or phone number on them, redeemable for one of your sticks. You could then ship it, arrange a meeting, or hide it somewhere and send them the waypoint.

It doesnt' fold. It's not graphite. It's plain old wood with a hook. Amazing how much use that hook is. Lets you climb tree's grab branches and hang on. Grabs barbed wire, and errant childrent. Though the kids don't like that much.

Yeah, a walking stick is too big to leave, even if it did fold. As a pole, it would definitely be a "look here" sign. You could carve a mini-walking stick or something like that (other carved item) and leave them as your signature item. Signature item are nice finds in caches.

 

... or the coupon idea of Mopar's.

I like the idea, however I suggest you place a coupon in the cache with the coords written on it and hide the pole someplace other than the cache. Kinda like a reward for either the first finder or the first person willing to to go seek it.

 

I'd say most any geocachers would be willing to look for an additional reward, so long as they have the time that day.
