+Team Grizzly
If you had $1,000,000 that you were required to spend on stuff that would improve your geocaching experience immediately, what would you buy? I've always wanted a unimog (if you don't know what this is, its basically a six-wheel drive, bomb-proof RV), an ultra-lite, and and a cheap pontoon plane. If I had a few bucks left over, maybe a new four season tent and a really nice hiking stick! Quote Link to comment
+clearpath
I'd use the $1m to start a lobbying campaign in Washington to allow for the use of geocaching activities on all state and federal parks, forests and wilderness areas. Quote Link to comment
+Deckyon
Cool topic. Perfect world: I would "buy" myself out of my job and spend the rest of my time caching after paying off house, car and student loan. That way, I could spend all my time out caching and not have to worry about the pesky job thing... What you were looking for : Gear List New Canon 1Ds Digital camera and complement of lenses New Camera bag/backpack Set of walking sticks (really nice ones) Top of the line hiking boots. Many pairs of the convertable pants with rip/stop fabrick (I like columbia's version) 10-person tent inflatable mattresses -50 deg sleeping bags Tricked-out Jeep Rubicon with all the extras Honda Valkrie Rune for the urban hunts. I would then pay off the house and let the rest sit in the bank paying bills while I changed professions to professional photographer and cacher. Quote Link to comment
CoyoteRed
We'd retire, buy a diesel pusher motorhome and an enclosed trailer to haul the Doo and a short wheel base Jeep or similar runabout vehicle. We'd buy some property in Florida as a home-base. The rest would be invested in a some mutual funds with an eye on income so we don't have to work. How's that? Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
Sheesh, that's a lot for geocaching. Beyond spending $500 for a 60CS, maybe a couple of hundred on a pallet of ammo boxes and a another couple of thou for trade items, there is an awful lot of change left over. I'd say a helicopter to place remote caches, but I like hiking, so that would be a waste. Edit: An idea for the change....invest it, quit my job and live off the interest. That will certainly give me more time to geocache Edited March 29, 2004 by briansnat Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
I'd probably get a 60CS and a spokesmodel. After that I'd run for the senate where I'd hire my spokesmodel as an intern and ultimatly get in trouble. However before the story broke I'd parlay that million into much much more (Only Martha Stewart gets caught) and pass some NPS related geocaching legisation. Once the story broke I'd dump my intern and capitalize on the name recognition and run for president. Quote Link to comment
+JamesJM
I'd hire Clyde and have him keep me current on software and hardware. I hate reading manuals and if he was on my payroll I could ask him anything with him knowing that if he replied "read the manual" I would fire his butt. - JamesJM Quote Link to comment

+blazerfan
I think even at the age of 26 I could retire with 1million... as long as I got the whole million... after buying a house and paying off my car and student loans there should still be enough left to earn a good chunk of interest... even with these low rates Being retired would free me up for a whole lot of geocaching Quote Link to comment
+The Weasel
I would hire somebody to cache for me but I would get all the credit!!! Quote Link to comment

I would use the money as salary, airfare, car and condo rentals so that I can take off work and go geocaching everywhere! Quote Link to comment
+Gizmo & Brazin
I would become the Goddess of Caches, having the best treasures in the caches I hide. I would place them in small out of the way towns and locations, so people all across the U.S. (and overseas) would have a shot at finding them. This would only take a small part of the $$, the rest would have to go for "personal caching expenses". Quote Link to comment

Dinoprophet
Take care of house, job, etc. etc. Then I'd buy up a bunch of land and see to it that it was always open for geocaching, whether I held onto it myself or donated to some org or another. +Logscaler and Red
About the only thing I would get to improve things would be a satellite phone setup with a internet connection for getting fresh cache information downloaded to the laptop. I might get a complete set of NG TOPO! maps of the USA. Anything else I might need for caches I would rent as needed. Now to keep all the money, I would also get the photo gear and make photo's my "job" and this way I could write off all the rented items as a business expense. All the miles between "photo" stops, all the swag as "props", all the ammo cans as "prop storage containers", etc. Now, who happens to be giving out the dough so I can see if this will work or not? Anyone? Anyone at all? I am waiting. logscaler. Edited March 31, 2004 by logscaler Quote Link to comment
