It has nothing to do with the actual coordinates of the cache...it is assigned automatically when the cache information is submitted to the website. Has there been any word on what happens when we reach GCZZZZ ? GC.com isn't really using base-36... some letters were omitted so that words couldn't be spelled. It's really something like base-30, but I can't remember exactly. Anyway, assuming base-30, that leaves room for 810,000 caches. Right now there are less than 100,000. We're not going to run out of numbers within a year. Jamie Quote Link to comment

Is it just another way to name a cache (instead of XYZ Cache), or do I plug the designation in the GPS and it automatically comes up with the lat and lon? Someone clarify, please! +Alan2 Posted October 4, 2003 Share Posted October 4, 2003 Six digits are used for the waypoint on this site because many of the earlier GPS units had a maximum of 6 will the latter units can handle ten. For waypoints you create, use ten if you want such as Peachy1234. Or DunknDnuts. Alan Quote Link to comment

I've only been doing this GX thing since April; found my first half dozen or so without a GPSr. Got one for my birthday in September; and the weather has been miserable ever since.
