+TeamK-9 Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 Okay, so I recently got an older model Supra PDA. I think it runs a Palm 2.xx operating system. I don't have software for the computer for hotsync, but I have all the cables and it's hooked up to the computer at home. Exactly what do I need to start basic paperless caching? If you need or want more info to answer my question, just post. Right now, I'm at school and I'm a little rushed for time, and I don't have the pda with me so I can't tell you much... Quote
+Stunod Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 You will need the sync software...I think you can download it free from palm.com Quote
SBPhishy Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 Yup. you might also be able to find a new firmware upgrade. Quote
+TeamK-9 Posted March 23, 2004 Author Posted March 23, 2004 Okay, that works out. Umm, do you guys have links? Also, like I said, it's a "Supra" I think they make real estate stuff, I got it from my dad. It's old, but it runs a palm os, I think it's a least 2.xxx Quote
+Stunod Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 A little Googling gave me this: http://www.supra-products.com/verticals/re...key/default.asp It sounds like "Supra" is a software package that runs on a Palm. That page says the current ones are running on the Palm m500 series. If you can figure out which Palm model it is, go to http://www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads/win_desktop.html for a Windows HotSync program or http://www.palmone.com/us/support/macintosh/mac_desktop.html for Mac. +Learned Gerbil Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 I don't know about OS2 but from at least OS3 yo ucan click on the file icon next to the graphiti area and then select Info - this should tell you the OS version, and may even tell you other stuff like the device. Quote
+TeamK-9 Posted March 23, 2004 Author Posted March 23, 2004 (edited) I found out that it runs a 3.5 operating system... And it seems to look a whole lot like a Palm V, or Palm Vx... How would I tell, I can't find it anywhere, and I can't remember where I left the manual last I had it... Edited March 23, 2004 by TeamK-9 Quote

How would I tell, I can't find it anywhere, and I can't remember where I left the manual last I had it... How much memory does it have? V is 2MB, Vx is 8MB. Tap "options" (bottom left of the graffiti area) App, and Info. That should tell you. Quote
+TeamK-9 Posted March 24, 2004 Author Posted March 24, 2004 I still don't know if there's any way for sure for me to kow what model is, but I think it most matches the specs for the Vx. So that's what I'm going for. So after I download the hotsync software, what do I do? Quote

I use the Spinner/Plucker combo (CYBret has a great tutorial HERE). The other major alternative is Cachemate (I haven't used it, but many people swear by it). Either way, you'll need to be a premium member to get Pocket Queries. Edited March 24, 2004 by Stunod Quote
+TeamK-9 Posted March 24, 2004 Author Posted March 24, 2004 (edited) Finally, the palm desktop thing came and I can hotsync. Now I just need to get plucker and spinner and everything... Edited March 24, 2004 by TeamK-9 Quote
+TeamK-9 Posted March 24, 2004 Author Posted March 24, 2004 Okay, so I got Spinner in, but I'm having problems with Plucker. What exactly do I need, and how do I get it onto the palm/installed on my comp... Quote

It will contain the PC and PDA software. Do not just download the distiller or viewer...you want the full desktop program. Edited March 24, 2004 by Stunod Quote
+GeckoGeek Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 Which ends up being easier to use? CacheMate is a specialized database of the caches you can store in your Palm. Plucker/Spinner (or Plucker/GSAK) will store static "web pages". It really depends on what you want to do. CacheMate can tell you what the closest caches are from where you are right now, log the finds, and with a cable can even send the waypoints to your GPS. Plucker being a web page is a bit more limited but some find the display format more functional. Quote
+Learned Gerbil Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 As for the model, that is unimportant now you know the OS. It is good that you have OS3.5. That is a mature version and should run all software not written specifically for the later versions. Later versions exist just to use either a different range of processors, better screen resolution, or to make use of expansion memory etc. The basic functionality will be the same as the OS3.5 you have. +TeamK-9 Posted March 24, 2004 Author Posted March 24, 2004 Can anyone help me with Plucker. I've got the one version for on the PDA on the PDA, but I can't figure out what to do with the other thing. I keep downloading a file with an extension I can't use... Quote

Give us some more detail...what are you downloading?? EDIT: Are you downloading the BitTorrent version? If so, read the left side of the download page...it will give you instructions on how to use Bit Torrent to get the file to work. Edited March 24, 2004 by Stunod Quote
+TeamK-9 Posted March 25, 2004 Author Posted March 25, 2004 Well, first I tried that but it didn't work so I used the normal exe file, but the download window thing didn't pop up, but I ended up downloading an older viewer. Also, stunod, thanks for the help... Quote
