Cache Exchange - Us/scotland

Good idea but some may find that the postage is very high...

Perhaps you should extend your offer to the whole of the UK?

You make a good point but, generally, this kind of exchange is 'contents only' which keeps the cost to a minimum. In addition, if the items are not sent airmail, the cost is not too bad. Speed is not a factor. ('sea mail' can take up to eight weeks but so what!)

My original hope was to do a cache swap with someone from my home area so that I could perhaps have a mental picture of the cache location. However, I guess that is not an area with a lot of cachers.

OK, as you suggest, if anyone, anywhere in the UK, is interested in a cache swap, then an e-mail through the system will get to me so that we can start the discussion.

Thanx for the input MarkB.....

I'm surprised that you haven't had any interest north of the border. There are plenty of active geocachers around in Scotland. However, it might help if we knew more about what a cache exchange is all about, and what it would involve.

Thanks

The thread that I linked to has a lot of information on the subject but there are no hard and fast rules. The basic idea is that two cachers (or teams) from different places (countries/states, what ever) agree to swap caches. In practice that generally means 'the contents of a typical cache'. The point being to use each others local goodies in making up the 'treasure'. It's simply a way to put a different slant on a cache and to possibly make it more interesting for the seekers. It makes sense to swap contents and for each end to supply a container if the container is seen as a major contributor to the weight factor. This assumes that the swap would involve the postal service or some other carrier.

However, as I said above, there are no fixed rules. Each case is a stand alone thing and would be agreed by the parties involved.

The basic agreement, to avoid later problems, would be, swap containers, Y/N and cost of cache content.....
