Gerbils, Hamsters, Pikachus and all other cute little rodents are not food!

Carleen, there are a few reptiles that might disagree with you. B)

Ok, I'll revise. I like reptiles and don't want to deny them their natural dinner. B)

Revision: Cute rodents are not people food, even for reptilian people! B)

Uhh... You are including squirrels in that, aren't you? B)

Hmmm..... small furry rodents.... Tasty! The only problem is that they're so dang small.... lots of little bones. That and it takes like, forty or so to feed even a small group of people.

Though I do have some questions: Where would you get a pikachu, and how do you prepare it? Bake? Boil? Roast?

That cartoon ought to appear in the first issue of "Today's HamsterCacher," a project I've been working on for quite some time. I'm finding that many people have questions about my signature item, and it might help to publish a guide. Here's a sneak preview, from the "winter hamstercaching" article:

I think I'm going to faint. Geocaching.com hates cute rodents! B)B)

Now don't get me angry, you know how mean I can get when that happens!  B)

Hope you're including Smurfs in there somewhere... B)

I thought smurfs were parasites, kinda like ticks, leeches, and maggots. B)

Which brings up the old question:

When you choke a smurf, what color does it turn?

"For more than 25 years, Lilia Chauca and her team of

researchers at the National Institute of Agrarian Investigation have worked

to breed faster growing, plumper, tastier guinea pigs. She was cited as

saying that Peruvians eat 65 million guinea pigs each year. In Peru, the

rodent's birthplace, guinea pigs remain a vital source of protein in rural

communities, a mainstay of Andean folk medicine and a religious sacrifice to

the gods."

Guinea Pigs might be considered medium sized rodents, but they are definitely cute.

A recipe for Cuy (Guinea Pig):

For 2-3 large animals; serves 4-6

2 red onions, chopped

4 cloves of garlic, chopped

2 tsp cumin

1 tsp white pepper

2 tsp of salt

2 tablespoons water

2 tablespoons oil

annatto (for coloring)

Mix ingredients well and spread over the inside and outside of the animal.  Allow to marinate for up to one day to allow flavors to meld.  Before roasting, remove excess marinade to avoid scalding.  The spit should be inserted into the back part of the animal and exit from the jaw.  Once on the stick, tie the front and back feet, stretching out the legs.  Put on grill, turning manually.  Continue to apply lard to the skin to avoid drying out the meat.  The cuy is ready when the skin is close to bursting.  Serve with boiled potatoes sprinkled with coriander, chilies, and the following peanut sauce.  If your community is especially progressive, rice may be substituted for the potatoes.

Peanut Dipping Sauce

2 tablespoons lard

annatto coloring

2 white onions, chopped

2 cloves garlic

salt

pinch of cumin

1 large cup of roasted and ground coffee with peanuts

3 ½ cups milk

Fry onions until golden brown, then add other ingredients.  Cook at low heat for at least half an hour.

Lady, our Burmese Python (Lady being her name) very much enjoys her rodents. But I am confused....you said CUTE.....I haven't met a CUTE rodent. Not even Splinter from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was cute. Lady and I work hard at reducing the rodent population in SW Ohio. Just another service provided, free of charge, by team JS. :D

Oh OK, I hate to admit it, but I did eat Paca in Belize. That was before I became enamoured with pickachu and started associating all rodents as "pikachus." :o

You did that?

Well, the very fabric of caching is folding up around us.

What will be next? An expose on the frogleg salads served at TPTB power lunches in Groundspeak Towers?

I would officially like to recant my previous support of my reptile. Friday night she tried to eat ME. I have now been forced to join ranks with the rodents. Together my fellow mammals and I shall vanquish the evil cold blooders. :o
