Team Misguided
Hide & Seek is one of those moving caches that is no longer approved. This one is was placed in January 2002 and has survived nicely with many finds. It is currently in the Bend, Oregon area and I'm the most recent finder. It is suppose to stay in Oregon. The trouble is that the owners last checked in September 2003 and are listed as "Not Validated Member." The email <j.hendershott@verizon.net> given on the cache page is not current. To work properly someone needs to adopt it and maintain the cache page with new coordinates when it is moved. Also, the cache type should probably be changed to "Mystery." Physical maintenance for this type of cache depends greatly on the finders but has not been a problem in nearly 3 years. Anyone want to take ownership? I like these kinds of caches (in small doses) and would hate to see it go away, so I'd be happy to take it if no one else expresses an interest. When adopting a cache we first make sure that the cache meets current guidelines and unfortunately moving caches are no longer permitted. The best thing would be for a local to pick it up and post a 'should be archived' note. The cache can be fixed up and recreated as a 'Memorial' cache. If you need any help getting this done please feel free to email me. Quote Link to comment
MarcusArelius
The Annette Lake Trail cache needs some work. The owner's last visit to the site was last year (only 3 months after signing up) and has no logged finds. I sent an e-mail last week offering help but I haven't gotten a reply. Since I just put a cache at the lake it would be easy for me to maintain this one as well. Quote Link to comment
+lahontan
I spotted another cache that I would be willing to adopt. Tie Mill on Squak Mountain (GC4B3) is listed as belonging to don & Linda who don't appear to be to have a valid log in any longer. I'd be happy to adopt this cache if don & Linda are in fact no longer involved in geocaching. I should add in here as well the Bullitt Fireplace Cache (GCC3B0). I'd be happy to take over this one as well. Edited September 27, 2004 by lahontan Quote Link to comment

+Maxwell Q
I know this is not in the NW, but I need some help or guidance. I have found a cache (GCG3PN) in Oklahoma City, OK. When I found it, it was soaking wet and one of the other cachers that was with me said "Had things growing inside it." I did drain the water out of it. What I want to know is how do I adopt this cache? I have been told by other GC members in my area that the owner quit GC and does not answer E-mails. I have a new container, logbook and a few other things to start it off with, but want to make sure it is ok to just walk up and change things to the cache. Does anyone know who I can talk to about it? Thank you, Maxwell Q BTW, a cacher from the NW told me to come here when I went caching with in New Mexico last weekend. Quote Link to comment

+GO West
I found Deep in the Wild Wood in Puyallup/South Hill (Wildwood Park) yesterday and it was a real mess. See my post. I was going to contact the owner, hunkofgod, but I see that he is no longer a "Validated Member" and has not logged in since 5/30/2004. I live a bit too far away (Edmonds) to adopt it myself, but there must be someone nearby who can at least add a new (dry) log book. Quote Link to comment

I can get to it early on Saturday morning. I stopped at this cache today and did some maintenance: - Swapped the leaky plastic cache container for an ammo can. - removed the tired and torn plastic bag - Added a pile of new treasure - Added a new logbook - Put the old log book in a new ziplock, marked it as full, and put it back in the bottom of the container - added a small ziplock for the small and delicate treasures - replaced and scattered the ridiculous pile of sticks used as 'hiding material' with some bark segments that cover it in a more stealthy fashion I also added the cache to my watchlist so that I can keep an eye on how it all holds up. +GeoRoo
There's a cache in Kenmore calledThe Invisible Pond My daughters live about a block from this cache, so I go by here all the time. I've found it on the ground and in pieces at least 3-4 times since this summer. I see the owner hasn't logged in since Aug 2003. I'd be willing to adopt this cache if need be. Edit, I heard back from the cache owner and he went ahead and disabled the cache. This cache isn't in any special place, but would be a shame to see another one go by the wayside with so many finding it. Edited December 9, 2004 by GeoRoo Quote Link to comment

PS curmudgeonlygal looks like she has two belly button in her posting sig pic. Who wants all the work it would take to make those caches work? Noctournal Omissions is GONE. All the glint stuff is gone, we went out and double checked last summer (you are welcome). Rainbow Kisser is GONE. We double checked this one last summer as well. And the Brew caches- thanks, but no thanks. There would be so much work to make those work correctly that why should someone want to bother. When a local starts placing caches in that area, I'm sure someone will clue them in to the abandoned vacation caches along the path. Maybe in a year or so there will be someone local who can figure out the clues from the archived pages and find the caches and use them to place some nice caches of their own. I'm sure your caches near home are nice but 3 of these caches had serious problems. The one you did try to fix took lots of cajoling from us and we live over 150 miles away from them. And the Brew caches still have serious problems with the multi steps. The only caches anyone could even adopt would be the Brews and in their cases, why not just contact the Great Falls geocaching group- GFGF on Smartgroups.com- and see what response you get there. -Jennifer (who found all 4 of the Syn in MT caches) Quote Link to comment
+daveinoregon
I think that you'd need to contact the owner or attempt to contact the owner before any change of status. More than one attempt would probably be needed. I think a visit to the site would be required and a physical notice would need to be placed in the cache (it might even ask for volunteers to adopt the cache as well as serve to inform the owner of possible adoption). The owner hasn't logged into the website since July of 2003, and email bounces back as a nonexistent account. When we were out there this past weekend, it was rather visible, and there was moldy dog food, mustard packets, etc inside the cache. The container is also not as waterproof as it could be, anymore, and the TB that's listed as in it, hasn't been in it since sometime in 2003 (May, I think?). We cleaned it up and camoflaged it as best we could, and would be quite willing to adopt it and take over maintenance and all on a more formal basis. It's a nice spot. Quote Link to comment

I'm in the area every few weeks visiting family so maintaing it would be easy. I'm not sure what you'd actually be adopting. Did you actually find the micro that's supposed to be there? We stopped briefly while on our honeymoon, but like everyone else logged it 'virtually'. While it might possible be a good place for a physical cache there's nothing in the area that really works as a virtual. If I get to vote, I'd say archive the old cache and open up the area to someone active. But that's just me... Quote Link to comment

I'm in the area every few weeks visiting family so maintaing it would be easy. Before an adoption is considered I review the cache to make sure it meets current guidelines. Since this cache doesn't meet the current listing guidelines for a virtual cache, and the physical container is missing, I've archived the listing. I think this is the best way to handle a cache like this because it allows an active local to place a new cache at this spot. Quote Link to comment
