Can't remember what cache log it was I read recently, but the person made two logs:

First log: "Didn't find it"

Second Log: "Needs maintenance"

 

How would they know that?????

 

If you can find where you saw the listing, it could be they didn't find it, and believe its not there, and posted a "needs maintenance" thinking the owner should check on it.

I have often debated whether or not to post a DNF or "Needs Maintenance" after my DNF at the location. If I feel the cache owner is able to take care of the cache, and is a responsible owner that may've been busy recently, I post a "Needs Maintenance"

 

I've posted a couple "Needs Maintenance" on a couple caches in Onondaga County I believed were gone because there wasn't many places to look at GZ and people already logged DNFs before I was there. The one cache, the owner archived the cache, the other the owner replaced it and I was the first to find the replacement.

 

I've had a cache of my own that I had a couple DNFs on, but didn't think it was MIA right away, come to find out, many people were DNFing the same cache, I disabled it and then (of course) replaced it in a new location. Most likely, the user is not going to delete DNF log because it shows that they searched for the cache long enough to warrant a DNF of their own, but decided later they will post an NM.

A lot of people won't claim a find on a cache if they haven't signed the log sheet. Discovering a badly damaged container with a missing log sheet could lead to a DNF and a Needs Maintenance log.

Exactly. A couple people I know of rack of finds but actually didn't find most of the caches because Found It = Didn't Find It.

Accusing people of not actually finding caches again? Do you have any sort of proof? If someone logs the cache the same day as you, but you didn't see their signature on the log.. doesn't mean they didn't find and sign it. Means they found it after you were there.

 

Not for the logs that were quoted but yes, I have proof. Delivered by the fake logger himself (for instance, logged as DNF by the other cachers present but logged as found). Admitted in person they only logged "even numbered" while other cacher logged "uneven numbered". But there are enough other threads where this can be discussed in more detail.

 

BTW, if you read this thread, isn't that proof enough?

Turns out the cache was still there, but the coordinates were off a bit. The CO has gone out and updated the coordinates.

Looks like some kids had fun trying to feed the squirrels and chipmunks. Every spot within 75 feet of GZ that could host a cache, was dug out and had stones piled up into what looked like little houses. One location had a small carpet and a bowl of acorns. Another a bunch of sticks that resembled a Teepee. I believe the cache was muggled by these critter home builders. I had a small plastic bag and an old sheetz receipt that i threw down as a replacement cache. If the CO wants me to remove my "found it" log i will. Thanks for the adventure in this nice park.

A few weeks ago I had solved this puzzle. I had a lot of work solving this one

When shopping today I came to sign the log. Didn't read prior logs and saw the fallen sign to which the nano was attached. Confirmed it was all rusty so we could not log.

I send the CO photographs of GZ and my calculation. I hope he accepts this.

Here in the region once again done a nice walk. It is always a party when we come to a cache and a yellow busin jaw can conjure the map to us laugh then increase again. The more of those yellow busin jaws there are more beautiful the scenery is. Again we have enjoyed the surroundings and seen a lot. With a satisfied feeling we have gone back home. Thank you to the CO for establishing and maintaining this beautiful cache.

Indeed. On a geo art series near us, there are multiple entries from the same Dutch geocacher. First he or she did log honest DNFs, then,

 

Also logging this as a found, because I would really, really like the geo-art to be complete in smileys on the map.

 

I haven't completed the series, so I'm not even sure how many he/she just went ahead and logged. More than a few, though.

 

Interestingly enough, on the cache I looked to for an example of his log, there was also this gem:

 

Arrived at this cache location and found after a short search. Cache missing at GZ. Put in a replacement container with new log. Small pico type with purple top in ground at GZ (by green). Thanks to all the COs who placed and are maintaining these caches.

 

Uh, if you have to throw down a cache to make the find, why are you thanking the CO for maintaining the cache? Forget to change the copy/paste log, or just being passive aggressive?

10's of found it logs on a cache that had no logbook for 4 years and 3 Needs Maintenance logs.

Searched for 20 mins and did not find. Judging by previous logs, the cache has been removed. Agree it is on a busy intersection and should not be replaced.

Enjoyed a cool and cloudy morning of caching here on xx. I came out to try this one before seeing the recent DNFs. Got to S1 and sat down to work out the coords for the final. Then it was a quick trip to the final stage, where I found the same thing others found...nothing.

Enjoyed a cool and cloudy morning of caching here on xx. I came out to try this one before seeing the recent DNFs. Got to S1 and sat down to work out the coords for the final. Then it was a quick trip to the final stage, where I found the same thing others found...nothing.

CO: I am mystified by the recent DNFs. I checked on the cache earlier this month and it is in the same place as it has been for years, and in good shape.

(I posted a log to this effect a couple weeks back, but it was from my phone and apparently didn't make it here).

I'm a little confused by Lackey's log -- he placed a different cache somewhere nearby?? I will go try to find it sometime this week. But unless something changed in the past 15 days, the original should still be there.

Could not sign log container rusted and would not open!

 

The container was in fact rusted, but it was an Altoids tin of a nonstandard type (not sure they make them any more, but for a while they were selling paper-thin Altoids), so it was not immediately obvious how to open. It opened just fine.

I'm thinking that might be what happens to some people, get so caught up on busy caching days and accidentally click the wrong button. Unfortunately, most of the time they do not realize their error and nobody bothers to delete their log and tell them that if they didn't find it, there log would be a "Did Not Find"

Othertimes, people may be logging finds on random objects and what-not to justify they were there somehow so they are claiming a find.

Maybe it's a time traveller who went to the future in a Delorean but decided that it was more honest to log the find on the departure date instead of the future date.

We placed the cache in a vacant area in a pre-existing trail. This finder has logged the whole trail yesterday, with the date 26/12/15, including ours..... whether it is a mistake or not, he certainly didn't find ours....

Sounds like someone who is back-logging and wasn't careful about checking which caches they actually found. This happens with an Earthcache I have that is near one of these trails.

 

Obviously, the log should be deleted but it is worth giving this cacher the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their motive. You never know when you'll be the one making a mistake.

We did 2 T4 caches today both of which could be done "stepping up" branch to branch. When logging I saw others "logged" one of these too.

A few raindrops didn't stop us we went to the end...

 

It had rained a bit when we got here, we thought climbing was to dangerous so we post a picture proving we found it.

We hope the CO will let our "find" stand.

 

They include a picture of the cache as seen from ground level. Cache is about 4m up in an easy to climb tree.

I hope the CO deletes the find and educates them what a "find" really is.
