A Groundspeak Lackey :) Found it

 

It's a great cache placement but it's totally busted open and no log to be found anywhere. Will recommend archival until it's fixed.

Is part of that quoting someone else...cause saying "archival" in place of temporary disabling shows a severe lack of knowledge on someone who is suppose to know the difference.

Just like at any business, I'm sure there are employees who don't fully understand the company's products. Mail room persons, warehouse, janitors, secretaries, etc.

Good point. Didn't think about that. I'm not that kind of employee (when I'm actually employed by a company rather than myself).

Although the cache was not found for some quite time, I've still made ??the trip and surched for the cache. I haven´t found the box too, but fount remains of the log book at the exact spot, which was described in the hint. I just entered once, and hope it's okay.

The person has "discovered" almost 3000 TBs and geocoins in week. Most "discovered" on 04/10/2013. The person is logging them at a rate of about 4 every minute.

Most of the TBs haven't been seen in several years, some missing almost 10 years. Many show still being held by the owner.

There were certainly enough at the Dresden Mega to discover. Wonder if a list of codes was circulated?

As a follow up the same lackey put a needs maintenance one one of my caches.

 

I guess they didn't realize that log sheets have 2 sides and if one side is filled then you can turn it over and sign the BLANK side of the log.

A couple of those logged are on my watch list. When they both popped up my first thought was it must be an event. When I checked the person then red flags went up. Far too many TBs/coins that haven't been seen in many years. In fact most look like they've been reported lost. A couple I looked at have been missing almost 10 years. A bunch of others showed still being in the owner's possession with the owners scattered all over the US. When checking these owners some haven't logged onto GC.com in years and some show logging caches in the US the day their TB was discovered in Germany. The other red flag that these are not from an event is this one person is the only one "discoverying" them. If it was that large of an event where they passed around a TB/coin list then at least a few others would be discoverying them too. No one has.

Sadly, I did not have a pen on me. So I am attaching a log photo with the previous signature as proof.

Proof I found it. Hate not being able to sign it.

 

If they don't follow their own rules why should anyone else ?

 

Sorry about my last OT post in this thread, I thought everyone knew that pieces of paper always had 2 sides.

Coincidentally, there's an event coming up in Istanbul on May 4th, but I've only got a 2.5 hour layover, but I've got an 11 hour layover there on the way home (May 10th).

Coincidentally, there's an event coming up in Istanbul on May 4th, but I've only got a 2.5 hour layover, but I've got an 11 hour layover there on the way home (May 10th).

 

Nice. Sorry you'll miss it. I may miss that one, too. Not sure yet. We had a rather large meeting (28 people is large for us) last week. Geocaching may be taking off here soon. I'm happy about that. I hope you have some time to grab a few caches on your 11 hour layover. I'll watch for your posts. Have a good trip.

Recently there were four bogus finds by the same cacher on the same day in my local area. In every instance the cacher was at ground zero but figured there was too much snow to actually find them. They posted spoiler picks instead. :D

 

One cache around here (micro) was buried under snow for about a month. I posted a note the first time when I didn't find it, and when I found it later it was too wet to sign the log. I posted a slight spoiler photo to prove I had been there but I had the cache IN MY HANDS. That's the important part.

 

Black and white, you found it or you didn't.

 

If I could see the cache but could not reach it, it's not a find.

 

If I can HOLD the cache but cannot open it for some reason I think that is a find, but you need to contact the owner to let them know why your name isn't in the log book, or send them a pic if you have a camera.

I'm not sure I totally agree with that last part. There was a cache not to far from here where finding the box was the easy part. Deriving the combination to the lock involved running all over town getting clues from several other caches.

 

In that case, it is clear that the CO intended that one has to figure out how to open the cache to get access to the log. That's not necessarily the case for most caches and I suspect that most cache owners would accept a found it log if someone held the container that was frozen shut in their hands. Whether or not the cache finder thinks "it's a find" might result in that person posting a found it log. Whether or not that found it log is allowed to remain is up to the cache owner, and if there is a dispute, someone at Groundspeak might make the final decision.

I understand the achiving but after walking half of yyyyyyy and enjoying the building where this cache was place I hope to claim a find as I was withing a yard and not able access as the gates were closed.

Found something, not sure if it was a geocache.

 

LOL, that was me. The 'cache' was a tiny plastic vial with a tiny slip of paper in it stuck into the sand in a spot where people would put their cigarette butts. I"m not normally rude like that, but it was such a lame hide. Oh yeah, and it's already gone missing. :laughing::rolleyes:

We would have loved to see this beauty of a cache in its natural habitat! We really have appreciation for a CO who goes that extra mile to put a cache together that brings such pleasure to finders. The craftsmanship on this one is superb! We were visiting the xxxx home to pick up some supplies, and they showed us this cache. We marveled at it, and hope that it finds another home. They allowed us to sign the log and count the find. Thanks for the memory!

Oh yea... This is a classic. It was just logged on today on a disable oddie!!!

I'm calling this one found. I went out to Juhan Rd. and parked. I followed the red trail for a while and then the blue trail until it lead me to ground zero. All of the trails were open, nothing saying don't use this trail. I did stay on the trail even at ground zero. The closest the trail got was about 42 feet. I could see a couple flat rocks at what I calculated was the hiding place. Ok, so, you say how is that a find? Well, I took pictures to show that I was there. The log, how about the log? I found a log it just happened to be in my pocket, I signed the log and then took a picture of it, then put it back in my pocket. It should make everyone happen, I was there, I changed nothing, I stayed on the trail, I even did a little CITO on the way out. I made use of the park, that SEEMS to be what it's there for, even if geo-caches and cacher's aren't welcome. Most all of the trails are marked for use by mountain bikers and horses. I don't think cachers are rougher on the environment than those two. If you want to delete this find fine, I had a nice walk. Thanks4tc

Wow, where to begin? (Cacher) and I did an easy series then he mentioned this cache and at that time it was only a thought. After getting some food and grabbing (Anothr Cache)the abstract though of getting the cache turned into "So where is it?" Neither of us have done a 5/5 before and we just talking about how caches are over rated some times. With that mindset we were on the hunt. We parked under the high tension wires and as soon as we got out of the car I was taken back by all the stars and no moon. We made our way up the hill without too much agony and got to the coords. After a minute or so we had our first tack then the next.... Then it became apparent that this cache is correctly rated. The land to swamp ratio was quickly diminishing. We did it all, bunny hopping, walking on downed trees and the occasional foot thru the ice. I managed to get one foot in above my boot and (cacher) had two. About half way thru the thought of turning back started going thru our heads but on reading the logs it seemed there may be an easier way out. We pressed on to dry land and were soon at gz. (Cacher) headed up with a boost from me and a frozen smelly boot on my face. After about 10 minutes he exclaimed that it wasn't there! He found the two tacks at the top with the black paracord tied to the branch and broken. After he came down we searched the ground but found nothing. I prepared an extra log sheet in a pill bag that I carry on me with a pin button I had from a previous cache. I started my accent and searched the branches incase it was still wedged in somewhere else. No dice. I pinned the new bag and log to the paracord still attached to the tree and took a few photos. On the way out we never did find the trail but did find a longer drier way out. What an adventure and certainly worth the rating. CO will have to make some repairs because if the paracord broke I don't know how long a baggie with a pin thru it will last. Thanks for my first 5/5 and a memory that won't fade anytime soon! Gets a favorite.

 

From the sounds of it, it is a well rated 5/5 night cache. But... They did not find the cache! They left a cheap throwdown paper in a pill bottle.

Last week, I found a very sneaky cache. I was prompted to do it after seeing:

 

Quite hard to find my first time geo cashing

 

Anyway, I looked at the online log to find that newbie had registered as a find a few days later:

I was in the area again today so I thought I would check it out.... Most others who've registered as a find had written more interesting comments, e.g.

 

Brilliant concept and execution
which it was! However, the newbie did not sign the logbook... I doubt s/he found it.

Electrical box which cache was in had been removed and GZ was behind a fence....

 

Found it :)

 

We visited the city and the casino, wonderful building! TftC!

Not to reach because of the streetworkers and restected area. Therfore we log with a photo

My first posting here.

 

Cacher, German and teacher on a school trip in Rome writes a long general text about chasing his pupils around town (presumably the same text for all caches found) and ends with:

The cache seems to be gone! I decided to log as "found" anyway. For this type of cache, it is important for me to have been on location site. We searched a long time, but found nothing! If this is a problem for the Owner, please tell me. I would change to "DNF".

 

Only had this one on our watchlist because we didn't find this one last week.

I remember that I looked for this one a long time ago. I don't know if it was missing or I just couldn't find it but this time I spotted it right away. Well... what was left of it anyway.. since as others have said, it is just the top now.

Another nice sunny day visiting San Onofre SB and riding my bike around the area. Beautiful sand beaches here and a great view of the trains going by. Like the recent logs mention, there was a cap only. TFTH!!

With my bad knee this was quite a climb. Even though I didn't sign the log I am claiming the find. I found the top half of a teen bison tube, bottom and log missing. TFTC.

I should have looked at the logs to see that people have been claiming a find on nothing but a cap since November. Good grief, people! Just log a DNF, already. Fortunately, the cap is finally gone. Hopefully, the cache will get replaced.

I have one in a nearby park that we couldn't find a couple of summer's ago that is on my watch list. I'm pretty sure the cache is gone. There's be a couple of DNFs since we logged our. So this log pops up the other day:

Found it! Update needed. Possible muggle damage.

 

Followed by this "Write Note"

Did not find!

 

They are fairly new cachers, so I guess I can't be too judgmental...

I have also lost my pen on route once so used the photo method but I would never do that with a cache that required me to open the box unless I actually had opened the box and shown that in the photo. FTF is another matter as how do you prove yours was first, only one way.

Yeah, I'm the same way. To me the LOG is the point of the cache. That's just me though. If I can't sign the log then I DID NOT FIND IT. There was a rusted shut bolt cache that I logged as a NM even though I found it. Took me 20 minutes to find it, checked the website to see if I was right. Confirmed that that indeed is the cache and I still won't consider it a find. Not until I sign the log. Maybe I'm overly stubborn. But I've drilled this into the kids I cache with. They actually fight over who gets to sign the log. :)

A sad illustration of the rampant buffoonery that passes for caching today: these fakers have over 60K in cumulative "finds" and only one person actually found the cache. A +25,000 "finder" sets the poor example and everyone else follows along. The final "finder" even thanks the absentee cache owner for "maintaining" a cache that has been missing for six months and goes on to say they replace the cache as found. Nice.

... Had talked to a prior finder so I kinda knew what to expect at GZ, but the coords just did not seem right and the log just seemed weird, but we added our names to the log.
