Geocaching Theme Song

Well Groundspeak? Is there an official Geocaching theme song? Could there be? Not that anyone needs a song to trigger them to think about geocaching, like we don't do that enough on our own ...

....how fast can the kids eat that so i can hide a new cache in it (grocery store)

....hmmm, duct tape (hardware store)

....well i came here for shampoo, but this rubbermaid would be perfect (walmart)

however, if you're having a bad day, like the day you have to go to the dentist, or the night you choose to do your taxes, and this song came on the radio, it will instantly remind you of caching, and change your mood, (hopefully your last caching experience was pleasent).

I vote for:

FIve for Fighting's "100 Years".

It's track #4 if ya wanna hear it.

The song is new, and the video is outdoorsy and it talks all about life and the lives of all different kinds of people.

Here's my contriubtion To the tune of Jingle Bells

Caching in the snow, drive your Chevrolet

Over the fields we go, Garmin shows the way.

Punch your waypoint in, making sure its right

Oh what fun it is to hunt a geocache at night

Geocache, Geocache caching all the day

Oh what fun it is to it is to find an ammo box today.

OK that stinks...then how about Signal In The Sky by the great Apples in Stereo:

The Apples In Stereo---Signal In The Sky (Let's Go)

Would you like to play a game of hide and seek now"

If you have X’ray eyes please promise no to peek now

Well first we count to ten’ and then we’ll have some fun now

Or will you fly away before we count one now"

Signal in the sky’oh

That’s when you know that you have to fly’oh

Signal in the sky’oooooohhhhhhh!!!!

"let’s go! You know you have a lot do’ ooh

"let’s go! And everything depends on you’ oooh

Hey girls’ hey girls’ come out and play now!

Or do you have to hurry off and save the day now"

Can’t you come over’ watch a movie with your friends now"

Or will you fly away before we see the end now"

Signal in the sky’oh

That’s when you know that you have to fly’oh

Signal in the sky’oooooohhhhhhh!!!!

"let’s go! You know you have a lot do’ ooh

"let’s go! And everything depends on you’ oooh

Then there's REM's Stand:

Stand in the place where you live

Now face north

Think about direction

Wonder why you haven’t

Now stand in the place where you work

Now face west

Think about the place where you live

Wonder why you haven’t before

If you are confused, check with the sun

Carry a compass to help you along

Your feet are going to be on the ground

Your head is there to move you around, so

(repeat chorus)

Your feet are going to be on the ground

Your head is there to move you around

If wishes were trees, the trees would be falling

Listen to reason

Season is calling

(repeat chorus)

If wishes were trees, the trees would be falling

Listen to reason

Reason is calling

Your feet are going to be on the ground

Your head is there to move you around

So stand (stand)

Now face north

Think about direction

Wonder why you haven’t

Now stand (stand)

Now face west

Think about the place where you live

Wonder why you haven’t

(repeat chorus)

Stand in the place where you are (now face north)

Stand in the place where you are (now face west)

Your feet are going to be on the ground (stand in the place where you are)

Your head is there to move you around, so stand

U2's "Still Havent Found What I'm Looking For"

I have climbed highest mountain

I have run through the fields

I have run

I have crawled

I have scaled these city walls

These city walls

But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for

But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for

But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for

But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for

(I'm gonna slap them with a lawsuit for copyright infringement.)

I don't know the name/group/singer but I'm kinda stuck on the song with the words "I still haven't found what I'm looking for"

-Jennifer

That would be U2, Jennifer.

I have numerous songs that spring my mind toward thoughts of geocaching. I often think I should make a geocaching CD to play while geo-traveling. Three songs that come to mind immediatly are:

"Watershed" by the Indigo Girls

"No Surrender" Bruce Springsteen

"Xanadu" Rush

Am I aging myself?

My Vote....

Escape Club

I'll Be There

over Mountains

over Trees

over Oceans

over Seas

across the desert

I'll be there

in a whisper on the wind

on the smile of a new friend

just think of me

And I'll be there

Don't be afraid, oh my love

I'll be watching you from above

And I'd give all the world tonight,to be with you

Because I'm on your side,

And I still careI may have died, but I've gone nowhere

Just think of me,

And I'll be there

On the edge of a waking dream

over Rivers

over Streams

through Wind and Rain

I'll be there

Across the wide and open sky

thousands of miles I'd flyto be with you

I'll be there

Don't be afraid, oh my love

I'll be watching you from above

And I'd give all the world tonight,

to be with you

Because I'm on your side,

And I still careI may have died,

but I've gone nowhere

Just think of me,

And I'll be there

In the breath of a wind that sighs

oh, there's no need to cry

Just think of me,

And I'll be there

I guess no one has heard Five for Fighting's "100 years".

I heard it for the first time back in September in the jeep, then once in the gym in January, and finally it has a video, which i saw today...in fact it sparked this whole thread.

They also have a song called "Terrasong" ...now come on, you can't tell me that's not perfect for caching!

Check it out HERE. It's track #4, "100 years".

I didn't think of the Signal the Frog tie in with Signal In The Sky. Good catch Septic.

There is also an old favorite of mine by a great 70's punk band called Wire.

It's appropriately titled Map Ref. 41°N 93°W And it goes like this...a 1, and a 2 and a 3...hit it boys!

An unseen ruler defines with geometry

An unrulable expanse of geography

An aerial photographer over-exposed

To the cartologist's 2D images knows

The areas where the water flowed

So petrified, the landscape grows

Straining eyes try to understand

The works, incessantly in hand

The carving and paring of the land

The quarter square, the graph divides

Beneath the rule a country hides

Interrupting my train of thought

Lines of longitude and latitude

Define and refine my altitude

The curtain's undrawn

Harness fitted, no escape

Common and peacefull, duck, flat, lowland

Landscape, canal, cannard, water coloured

Crystal palaces for floral kings

A widespread waving span of wings

Witness the sinking of the sun

A deep breath of submission has begun

Team Yatta actually has it's own theme song. :)

Here is a little background:

Well Yatta! literally means "We did it!" but it's similar in context to someone shouting "Alright!" in english. It's an exclamation of happiness.

A song called "Yatta!" was created by a group of guys called "Green Leaves". The song was first performed on a Japanese television show called "Silly Go Lucky". Silly Go Lucky is a sketch comedy show by the same group of guys. So of course one day during a Green Leaves sketch they did "Yatta!" and the rest is history. Their costumes are simple: tighty whitey underwear with a huge leaf attached to the front, sneakers and nothing else. :)

The song and now the group have made it really big in Japan with the song going triple platinum in weeks. Green Leaves has also spawned it's own cartoon series.

Here is a photo of the group. Keep in mind they are a comedy troupe so their pictures and videos are supposed to be goofy/funny:

yatta.jpg

And if you're really brave, intrigued or just want to see where Team Yatta got it's name, you can view their funny/weird video here!

EVERYBODY SAY YATTA! :o

(Yes, we have this song on cd and we play the Yatta song every Thursday as soon as we hit the road to go caching! We are geeks, but we are having fun!)

lyrics for "100 Years" Five for Fighting

100 Years

I'm 15 for a moment

Caught in between 10 and 20

And I'm just dreaming

Counting the ways to where you are

I'm 22 for a moment

She feels better than ever

And we're on fire

Making our way back from Mars

15… there's still time for you

Time to buy and time to lose

15…there's never a wish better than this

When you only got 100 years to live…

I'm 33 for a moment

Still the man but you see I'm a they

A kid on the way

A family on my mind

I'm 45 for a moment

The sea is high

And I'm heading into a crisis

Chasing the years of my life

15… there's still time for you

Time to buy and time to lose yourself

Within a morning star

15… I'm all right with you

15… there's never a wish better than this

When you only got 100 years to live…

Half time goes by

Suddenly you’re wise

Another blink of an eye

67 is gone

The sun is getting high

We're moving on...

I'm 99 for a moment

Dying for just another moment

And I'm just dreaming

Counting the ways to where you are

it would be interesting to drop the geoching soundtracks onto a disc and listen to them in the car.

it there a legal waty to do that?

The legal way would be to go out, buy every CD that the songs are on, rip them to your hard drive, and burn them to a CD.

Now you know why nobody does it legally (and why -- big tangent here -- US copyright law has become largely irrelevant and in desparate need of an overhaul, which will never happen). I doubt that Apple's itunes service has all the songs you want.

You could, in theory, legally compile the songs off of Kazaa for some type of 'fair use', but you'd better check with your attorney (not me!) before you do.

As for me, I balance my desire to share music and my disdain for the current state of copyright law, multiply it by my chance of getting prosecuted for it, and go from there.

Back on topic, I've created two geocaching CD's: one set for a few lucky participants in the Victoria Cache Machine (Victori Us, and another set which I called Spinning Wildly: A Collection of Songs to Hunt Caches By. Among the songs on the second CD were the songs mentioned above by U2, REM, Dave Matthews Band, and the Apples In Stereo ("Signal in the Sky" gets my vote for best ever geo-song). It also has ZZ Top's "Doubleback," which is high on my list.

The Muppets' "Movin Right Along" is a good candidate, too.

I want to know have you ever cached in rain,

I want to know did you ever feel the pain.

Coming down on a sunny day.

Or,for my buddy from Califiornia that introduced me to caching.

Welcome to the cache California ,

you can find one here ,any time of year.

But you can never leave.

duna na na nu.. . . . . . ... . .... . .

Every song I hear now I think about a caching tune to it.

This is for those with young kids, it's not my best work:

To play geocaching, you've got to find a...

(micro!)

A micro! Right! And that's our first...

(coordinate!)

then we put it in our...

(eTrex!)

cause they're geocaches, geocaches!

We've gotta find another micro

And that's our second coordinate

We put it in our eTrex

Cause they're geocaches, geocaches.

We've gotta find the last cache then

And that's an ammo can

We sign the cache's log book

Cause they're geocaches, geocaches

Then we sit down on a rotten log

And trade....trade...traaaaaade

'Cause when we use our eyes

And take a step at a time

We can find any cache

(bow bow!)

That we want to find.

I was listening to some oldies the other day and had a perfectly HORRIBLE realization about one particular song that's semi-geocaching-eque. I don't think anyone's mentioned it in this thread or any of it's previous incarnations. Maybe I'll leave it to you to recall the song:

Now the valley cried with anger; mount your horses, draw your sword,

and they killed the mountain people, so they won their just reward.

Now they stood beside the treasure on the mountain, dark and red,

turned the stone and looked beneath it. "Peace on earth" was all it said.

SHUDDER

Took: Rock with "peace on earth" written on it. Left: a big bloody mess.

On the other hand, I've always liked a semi-obscure song called "Scenic Routes" by a group called "The Lost Dogs"

Otto shakes his blinders off,

Plows up the common streets

The Lost Dogs bark the Nicene Creed

And dream of bones to eat

Praise eglantines, hot joe and beans,

The sea, the desert heat

Chorus

Yeah, we'll take the scenic routes

(And stop and smell the roses)

Find out what it's all about

(With eyes wide open)

(With wide-eyed wonder)

(There's nowhere else I'd rather be)

(Chase the endless summer)

Paint the common things with mystery

And renovate our history,

When we take the scenic routes

The cloud-enfolded Trinity

Unpacks the ancient tapestry

When we take the scenic routes

Otto rides narrangensets

On back the westward wind

To pecan logs and shopping malls

And illustrated men

Loves Christ the Lamb, mom, eggs and ham

And this tattoo on his skin, says

Chorus

Pigs in a blanket

Nice and hot

Wax museums

Mystery Spots

Great balls of string

Neat shrunken heads

The Penguin Boy says

Chorus

Bret
