thujaplicata
Well I finally brokedown and got the Gpsmap 60 instead of waiting on the 60cs and though I had some reservations about not having a barometer and electronic compass, I am very surprised with this unit. I dont think I have had it out of my sight since I got it!! Loaded in the update and filled 'er up with maps and took off on my favorite running trails with the dogs....very cool! One hing I did notice that was kind of neat is that the background changes to black at night(or at least when the unit percieves it as being night) Am I correct in this? Anyways I thought I would add my 2 cents....as far as I am concerned the 60c is a fantastic unit and the only regret I have is that I didn't buy it sooner 'cause I was waiting on the 60cs Quote Link to comment
JumpinJoe
Glad to hear we have another happy 60c user. Yes, the display turns to black at night. I am sure it either has something to do with power saving or readability issues. Quote Link to comment
+Brenin Tegeingl
It might have something to do with the Transreflective screen. The base layer of the screen reflects light back up through the other layers, that's what makes the screen so bright in daylight. No light at night, so no light to reflect back up. +Volwrath
IMO its simply for eye fatigue. While driving at night, you don't want a very bright GPS distracting you for hours on end. Quote Link to comment
+Wienerdog
The 60C automatically switches to “night” mode at the predicted sunset time and back to “day” mode at sunrise. You can toggle this feature off in the setup page. The 60C is one beautiful rig! Quote Link to comment
+sk8rdi16
This feature is very good at night. Ever been on the bridge of a ship at night, it is all red!! With the black/red of the night display you can keep your 'night' vision that your eyes have adjusted to. Quote Link to comment
