+Stunod
In other words you dont know. I've seen very similar stones in this area (Chicago) that mark the corners of the forest preserve property. Maybe this is something similar. Quote Link to comment
+The Weasel
looks like a headstone to me. Hmmmmm, maybe its Jimmy Hoffa? They always say he was burried in NY somewhere. Maybe we need to get Geraldo Rivera to escavate it. Maybe this time he could find something more than hair lint and and a couple bottles like he did at Al Capones vault. Come on, I know I wasn't the only sucker that got roped into watching that 2 hours of crap. Quote Link to comment
4x4luv
as a land surveyer in WA Ive seen a few like it. They use them to mark the corner of State Forest Lands From The early 1900's If there any large trees around look for marker trees with a scab on the side towards the marker Quote Link to comment
+Cherokeecacher
Have you done a search for that area here? It does not look like the traditional discs that I have seen, but why else would there be a concrete pillar in the woods? Quote Link to comment
+BlackBuck
this is on the carmens river on long island, just north of wertheim national forest .. Quote Link to comment
+BlackBuck
I checked the site theres alot of benchmarks lited near by but nothing there ,so far the corner of a prserve makes the most sense Quote Link to comment
Dan Vull
That might bet a good bet. I was going to say some sort of ROW post, but usually those are not in the woods unless the road bed has been abandoned. This most likely denotes state owned land. Heh what no snow? Is it still winter? Quote Link to comment
+Kewaneh & Shark
Check out the thread called Who Can Identify This Marker? that was started just a few days ago. A similar right-of-way marker was found by a benchmark hunter in the California desert. Edited February 24, 2004 by Kewaneh & Shark Quote Link to comment
