+RocketMan
Explain to me why everyone is wearing sweaters and jackets in the desert? It can be rather cold in the desert in the winter. It was in the low 60's yesterday and raining at times. The jackets had to go on and off during the hike. RM Quote Link to comment
+leatherman
It was in the low 60's yesterday On my! I can see where you might freeze to death in those extreme temps! Quote Link to comment

+wildearth2001
I have been wanting to go hiking back in Cougar canyon and one other (I thinks its called "The Maze")in A-B Desert for a while. The first I heard about Cougar canyon was from a SAR (search and rescue) orgainization. From what I have been told the area around that canyon has killed many people, mostly from getting injured then running out of H2O, a few from falling off cliffs and a rare few from floods. Is this true? One of these days (propbably after I start driving)(hey it could be my first solo road trip) I will finnaly get to go there. I just missed being able to go to an Orienteering Meet near "the Maze" a month ago. Quote Link to comment

Is this true? I don't know if this is true, but there certainly a lot of opportunities to fall from a cliff while hiking on the west wall of the canyon. Fortunately we all made it in good shape. +BeachBuddies
We spent much of Saturday visiting a local bird sanctuary called Huntley Meadows. It's a wetlands park in No. VA. Very fun, here are a couple pics: The kids (8 & 3), having fun caching: Quote Link to comment

+Dan-oh
Since I couldn't make the local San Diego desert gathering, I found a nice hike up to 'Rock House'. Its one of the burn areas from October's wildfires but take a look at the signs of recovery. Quote Link to comment

+bthomas
This past Saturday was kinda overcast, but we did visit 50 caches. Thought this was going to be a hanger cache, but it was just a toy in a hedge. Gotta love the wet beaver. This effectively meant DNF. This was a couple of weekends ago, out by the ocean. +Warriorrider
I came across this guy just after finding a cache this weekend. The funny part is, he froze when he saw me (or I saw him) and I think that he figured I could not see him. To be fair, he was not as close to me as it appears. I have a pretty good zoom on my camera. Swagger
Went up to Burrow Schmidt's tunnel on Sunday. For those that don't know, he was a miner who was looking for a way to get his ore from his claim site to the road that goes to L.A. He decided to dig a tunnel through a solid granite mountain. It took him 38 years to dig the tunnel and before he finished it, a road had been built which negated the need for it. He completed his tunnel anyway. Too many pics to post here, so I'll link to them instead. http://sthomas.net/pictures/Jeep/otr/20040222/ Quote Link to comment
