A Mobile Cache

Around June, I'm going to retire and start full-timing. I'll be living in an RV and traveling the USA. I'll probably be in an area for a month or two, check out the sites and then move on.

I have an ammo can which I bolted on a trailer hitch receiver that can be locked onto the back of my RV.

What I would do is create a cache and give my present position. When I get ready to travel, I would archive that cache. When I get to a new destination, I would enter the new coordinates and place it back into the system.

I thought that it would be a great way to meet other geocachers while traveling.

Does this sound like something that would work?

Probably not the whole idea of placing a new cache once every two months, but you might be able to work something out with Groundspeak.

But the rules on moving caches do say that there has to be a way of knowing exactly where it is at any time. So the question is, would you be driving into a town and then just parking somewhere and leaving it their for the duration of your stay?

Edited cause I didn't notice he said months and not weeks

I believe the current definition of a "temporary cache" is one that will be in place for less than 3 months. I'm not sure how you could get this idea to fly. Neat idea, though.

See if you could make it a traveling event Cache. When you arrive at a place, get with some cachers and go caching with the locals.

And I hope you can get to CO. I've been on the boats, and my #1 son is a TM1 SS, so the invite is open to come up here and do some caching.
