JAMN_Swedes Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Hi all. Does anyone know if there are any regs. against starting a cache in the Derry Twp. Park System? I called and asked and they never heard of geocaching and when they transferred me to the person in charge of Parks it just rang off the hook. Just wondering. Quote
+Quest Master Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 I think that your question needs a little clarification. What county? There is a Derry Township in Westmoreland County close to where I live but I don't think they have any parks or a park system. I don't think they are big or sophisticated enough for that. Their only police car broke down once upon a time so they put the lights and siren on one of their trucks. I have not heard of anyone being pulled over by the Derry PD pickup but I am always vigilant whenever I drive through that town. Quote
JAMN_Swedes Posted February 16, 2004 Author Posted February 16, 2004 Sorry, I mean Derry Township in Dauphin County. Hershey, PA. They have LOTS of police cars (and SUVs, and motorcycles) and I've been pulled over by one! Jason Quote
+Salvelinus Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 If you feel compelled to obtain permission, and if its a county park system, you need to try again to work it through them. Sometimes small county park systems don't want to deal with anything they are not aware of, so they just say no without even considering it. Other times they embrace anything that may attract people to their parks. I would try to establish some dialog with them and explain geocaching to them before you actually ask permission to place one. Their reaction may dictate how to proceed. Let us know what happens! +Klatch Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 There are already caches in four of the five township parks (all but Brookside) and some have been in place for a couple of years. Before you place one you probably should check out the other ones to make sure you don't violate the 0.1 mile rule. Quote
+TeamK-9 Posted February 19, 2004 Posted February 19, 2004 Also, check with the cache owners of the ones already in the park and see if they got permission or not. I mean, if they didn't, you certainly don't want to mention them when your trying to explain caching to a park manager, but if they did get permission the caches would be a great reference... Quote
