Topo Maps On The Gps

I'd like to find good topo maps for downloading into a Garmin 60C. I don't hike in National Parks - so that rules out the Garmin National Park maps. I've looked at the Garmin Topo US maps and would like to find something with more detail. Is there anything available?

Nope. Just Mapsource Topo. Now if you want maps on your computer that's another ball of wax and you can do much better. But if it's maps on your GPS. Mapsource is the only way to play.

Not at this time. You'll have to print out your own paper topo's (use adventure paper) or get yourself a pocket pc to put the DRG's on.

I personally haven't tried this. I started scanning a bunch of aeronautical charts, but then got sidetracked by the premature birth of my baby daughter

I found http://maps.nationalgeographic.com/topo/search.cfm topo maps from National Geographic that you purchase by the state. They're 1:24000 - which should have more detail than the Garmin TopoUS at 1:100,00. The page I found describing them says they can be downloaded into a GPS.

From what I see here is that you can only send routes and waypoints from this software to your gps, not maps.

This is true. You do have the ability to make your own maps.

That explains it. When I read "download" I assumed the maps could be downloaded. Thanks!
