Personalized Geocaching Stat Button

I've seen these listed in some users tag lines. They look like a link button with user stats (found/hidden) on them. How/where do yo find these? I did a forum search but nothing turned up. When I pulled up another users button, the URL looked like a long equation of some kind with text that could be changed. How do I personalize this for myself?

They don't allow those any more.

BTW - they were from another site where folks had to enter their stats. It wasn't automatic.

Very few people did it, and some exagerated their finds/hides.

Not true, lots of people (including me) have them on their profile pages although it's a manual process with all those kinds of warts. Looks like there's some way to a similar effect via this site, check out TravisL's profile. Still trying to figure out how he did that...

I just went to your user info page and the UID showed up in the URL address.

It updates automagically.

For extra fun, add "&bg=2" to the end of the address (no quotes of course...)

Yes, it is self-updating.

You can find you UID by reading one of your cache logs. The text at the end of your stat URL is what is displayed with your stats. Use a "+" instead of a space.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at my stats page and was only seeing a 6 digit number. If you type in some bogus number you get Signal the Frogs stats.

Hey, thanks a bunch. I'm still tryin' to figure this thing out and it's drivin' me nuts.

If this = page A, then this should = page B - "fun" suffix nothwithstanding. But it don't.

If you look at the URL:

www.geocaching.com/stats/img.aspx?uid=d1984dd9-2ce6-42d8-886a-54030c075d53&txt=We+have+stats!

the text in red is where you stick your UID. The text in green is where you can put a short message, with plus signs for spaces.

go to your my cache page, scroll down to one of your found caches. click the link for log,from that page clickon the link that takes you to your user page. your user id will be in the address window.

Wow, this is so neat! Thanks Halden for setting this up for me. Question here guys. How can I use this little image in my signature in Outlook? I would love to have this stat at the bottom of each e-mail I send out. Is this possible?

I understand I can LINK to the image, but I would like to know if you can put the image itself as a self updating item on a webpage rather than a link. That way whenever you view my webpage, the curret stats pop up on the page that it's located.

Yes, you can put the image on a site as an image, just as long as you are allowed to have dynamic images.

For example, if you try to post it here, it won't work because Groundspeak has disabled embeding dynamic images.

It will work, though, as I've done it here.

You can add the banner as a signatue in your Outlook mail. Make sure your messages are formated in HTML.

Create an html file like so:

<html>

<body>

</body>

</html>

Then open outlook got to Tools > Options

Select the Mail format tab.

Click on signatures.

Click on new.

select the Use file as template option.

Click browse and find your html file.

Voila! you can now send your banner with every email message.

That's a lot of "clicking". How 'bout just creating the string using a text editor (like notebook) and saving it as an *.html file. Seems easier.. but, then again, as long as the job gets done I guess it doesn't matter what tools we use.
