I got my GPSmap 60c today and promtly transfered six Metroguide 4.XX mapsets (50.6 MB) onto it. My Vista would accept 30MB in around one hour for a data transfer rate of ~0.833 KB/Sec. The 60c transfered 50.6 MB in 2 minutes 26 seconds for a transfer rate of ~346.5 Kb/sec. That makes the data transfer ~416 times faster.

Just some more real-world data for you all.

I have a 60CS on order but I also have a Vista and a Garmin V.

Please tell me how to get 30 megs of maps on the vista. I have never been able to do more than around 24 I think.

Whoops, I meant 24MB. So the 60c is about 600 times faster. And your Father smells of elderberrys.

You might want to check your math. If the Vista takes one hour to transfer 24 MB, that's a transfer rate of 6.7 kB/s, and the 60c at 50 MB in about 2.5 minutes is about a factor of 50x faster.

That's reasonable considering that the theoretical rate of USB 1.1 (12 Mb/s) is about 100x faster than the Garmin RS-232 rate of 115 kb/s and you'd expect the faster interface to be affected more by handshaking, processing time, etc. therefore only getting a factor of 50x in practice.
