Virtuals/pictures

I have several questions along the same subject. To start, I found a virtual the other day, but don't know how to get the image from my scanner to my log page to record it for credit. I also don't understand how to get a neat little picture to pop up with the messages I post in the forums. (Are those called avatars? Or what are the avatars?) And, what about those that have a nice background/desktop for the border around the page that shows their profile? Can someone explain, again, (as I know this topic has been brought up lately), step by step, in PLAIN ENGLISH...no special terms that aren't explained (JPEG, IMG, etc.)

Looks like the problem may be that my pictures are all .tif files, and I need .jpg? Do you know how to convert them?

If you are using XP, simply open the TIF in PAINT, and save the image off as a JPEG. Easy as Pie..

Start - Programs - Accessories - Paint

Here are the steps to put the pictures on the posts:

• Log on at Geocache Home
  
• Click my cache page on the left side
  
• Click change your account information
  
• Scrool down to Photo (under my profile)
  
• If you didn't upload your picture click uploaded any images yet. Otherwise go to next step
  
• In the box with the arrow beside your avatar image click the arrow and select the picture you want
  
• Enter your password at the top of the page
  
• Click modify my account
