Help - Coordinate Conversion

Hi

 

This might be a stupid question. I am new at the geocache game and I need help with coordiante conversions.

 

I have coordinates for a cache in Degrees_Minutes_Seconds and need to know how to convert this into the correct format to enter into the format required to enter it into this website deg_minutes,minutes. Can someone helpout.

Divide the seconds by 60 and you have decimal degrees, i.e 25 minutes and 30 seconds becomes 25.500 in decimal degrees.

Every GPS can do this for you. In your set-up menu somewhere is this option to change coordinate formats. If you have the coords in your unit in Degrees, minutes, seconds just change the format to Degrees, minutes, decimal minutes and it converts for you.

 

You can also do the same with map datum. Just change the datum and it is converted for you.
