thcri
I received word yesterday from Off-Route that mine had been shipped. Fed-Ex sent me an email this morning with the details. It looks to me like there is two versions of the GPS60CS or at least some of the retailers are adding a Pro-99 Battery pak kit which I don't see on Garmins page? Can someone tell me what the is and is it worth the $40.00 some are asking for it. What did Off-Route charge you or what is their home page for me to look up. I can't find it for some reason. I sold my Vista and now ready to my CS. murph Quote Link to comment
+WeightMan
Off-route is linked from the gc.com home page. The 60c was about $8 more than the other sites I checked. Sorry about misreading the subject header. I saw 60c not 60cs since the 60c is now shipping and the 60cs won't be shipping for a bit. I think the other site i checked was TigerGPS. thcri
That's no problem. I do want to get the CS but am also looking at the Rhino 130. My friends are all going to get a Rhino 120 for when they are 4 wheelin. I think the Rhino 130 would do me ok, I would save some money but I do a lot of Geo-Caching with my daughter, in fact more Geo than wheelin. So I am having a hard time deciding which one to get. It looks to me like www.gpsdiscount has the best pricing for the CS with the freight included. murph Quote Link to comment

+aka Monkey
I ordered from GPSCity, and my unit is going to arrive tomorrow. Sadly, I won't be here to sign for it. I initially ordered 2nd day and asked to have it shipped to my dad's address so he could sign for it, but GPS City freaked that the billing address and shipping address were different, so I had to have them just ship it to my home. See this thread for more. Although, as you have pointed out, this is not the case. Garmin also has mount accessories available for the 60 series. +Ish-n-Isha
I ordered my 60CS here. http://www.jollyannsales.com/GPS/garmin_gpsmap_60cs.htm 417.99 delivered to my door. Now I suppose someone is going to find it for 399.99 right? Anyway this is the lastest word I recieved today. Thank you for your order. Before I process your order I wanted to ensure that you are aware that Garmin has not started shipping the 60CS yet. They have started shipping the 60C, but they tell us the 60CS will begin shipping in a couple weeks. We want to be sure our customers are fully aware of the status. Do you want me to go ahead and process your order with the understanding that it will ship when Garmin begins shipping these units? Again, We thank you for choosing Jolly Ann Marine & Outdoor! I will await your reply before processing the order. Have a great day, Wade Wade Kuehl Jolly Ann Marine & Outdoor www.jollyannsales.com Quote Link to comment

+Albino Parrot
Just got off the phone with Offroute.com. They said they're not expecting their 60CS shipment from Garmin until Jan. 30th. I placed my order on Jan. 2nd. $429.95 plus shipping. Might of saved a few bucks elsewhere, but I like their policy of contributing 5%-20% of your purchase to geocaching.com. By the way, I added the cigarette lighter adapter to my order today, which is also currently back-ordered, but will be available to ship with the CS. Edit- Just received the following email from offroute.com: We are getting hammered with 60C/60CS questions, but I'm not gritting my teeth yet. We are expecting a handful of 60CS units around January 30th. This date has been pushed back several times and I can't guarantee it won't be pushed back again. As far as your order is concerned, I think it might ship out on January 30th, but I'm not exactly sure how many 60CS units we will receive on January 30th. If your order isn't filled by the first round of units coming in, it will definitely be filled by the second round of 60CS units which are expected to arrive around the end of February. We are expecting about 15 units on January 30th, and you are the 13th order on the waiting list. I really won't know how many units Garmin will be sending us until we actually receive them in our warehouse. I wish I could offer a more definite answer, so I figured I would give you the run down on what is going on so you have some idea what to expect. I will try my best to keep you updated. By the way, the teeth gritting part refers to part of my email query. Edited January 22, 2004 by Albino Parrot Quote Link to comment

+RocketMan
I preordered a CS last Wednesday from GPS Discount and was concerned with all this first shipment/second shipment talk, so I e-mailed them to find out what is going on and here are their responses: I have preordered a GPSMAP 60CS and I have two questions: 1. Do you have an ETA for when you will receive the 60CS's? Not really. We are a one day ship from Garmin, we ordered a bunch the day of the announcement, we are just waiting on the 60CS to show up. 2. Will you be getting enough units to cover my order with the first shipment that you get from Garmin? Yes we should have enough. I think that this confirms what others have said about GPS Discount ordering a bunch of units for their first shipment. Bottom line is that if you want to order now, GPS Discount has the best price and you will probably be able to get your unit shortly after Garmin sends out their first shipment. thcri
Stopped in at work today and see I had an e-mail from Garmin. I did write to them a couple of days ago regarding the shipping of the 60CS. My reply back was they have no date as of yet for first shipment The next line basically said as of right now there is no plans until the very end of the first quarter. So the end of the first quarter is the end of March. We won't see them until the first part of April. I sure hope our retailers have information that Garmin doesn't want to give out yet!! I hope. murph Quote Link to comment

+robert
I heard from TVNAV today that the latest word from Garmin on the 60CS is February 23rd. FWIW I heard from Garmin the 16th or 23rd, something like that... "the week of the 16th" maybe.... which would be very close to the 23rd. Since the 60C is already shipping, there's not a whole lot they have to do to make the CS so this doesn't have "iQue" written all over it. I wouldn't fret much past 3rd week of Feb before we have them. Quote Link to comment
thujaplicata
Just talked with the guy that runs GPS discount and he confirmed the 500 units mentioned earlier and was under the assumption that they would all be spoken for by the time they were received by him.....also I e-mailed Garmin about their peculiar marketing tactic on this and the reply was: Thank you for contacting Garmin, We will ship the 60CS as soon as we receive the units from our manufacturing facility. We are expecting the shipment very soon. Thank you for choosing Garmin. Best Regards, Andrew Haaven Aviation Support Specialist ......that's about all I can add......still waiting..... +aka Monkey
I thin their "peculair marketing tactic" has to do with two things. First, the factory can only make so many of them at once. These aren't like stamping out widgets, and they must take a fair amount of work before one leaves the factory floor. Second, Garmin probably got nailed before when they announced the iQue so far in advance, and I'm sure they don't want to jump the gun on announcing a firm date until they're sure they can hit it. Second, Garmin probably got nailed before when they announced the iQue so far in advance, and I'm sure they don't want to jump the gun on announcing a firm date until they're sure they can hit it. A few things: The Garmin "factory" has been producing the 60C for a couple weeks, obviously, since the first batch has already shipped. The factory had to halt for a bit for the Chinese New Year. From what I understand, the CS is preparing for production in a week or so, making the first batches of those available early/mid-February. None too soon in my book. Have to get ready for my Camping/Caching weekend in April! As for the iQue, that's a completely different animal than anything Garmin, or anyone else, really, has ever produced, which is where the problems came. Getting it all tied in together and working seamlessly in an all-in-one solution. When the iQue finally hit the streets, it had a host of problems that have since been resolved, even for those with the original units. The 60-series is "just another GPS" so the amount of issues related to its release are minimal since that's what Garmin does. The screens are new so as long as they could secure enough of those, they'd be fine. But for the most part, they had everything else ready to go, save for the software which doesn't take too long to tweak once you've got the hardware laid out. Something they didn't really have with the iQue. They announced it when they felt confident they could have it out soon, but with hardware and software flubs they had to postpone it a bit until they got it as close to right as possible. Even when they felt they did, they still had a few things which they fixed promptly. Kudos to Garmin on that. They're really a top-notch business, and the more I use my recently acquired Legend, the less I miss my SporTrak Color. Now I can't wait to get my grubbies on the 60CS. I never used the compass in the ST, but figured for the difference I might as well get it so I didn't regret it later. I never used the pointer screen either, before getting the Legend, using the map screen for over 100 finds. Now I can't even go back to the map screen unless I want to get an idea as to the layout of caches around me. Can you tell I'm a tech guber? And BTW, I have no affiliation with Garmin, in case you're wondering! Quote Link to comment
+robert
I saw a note earlier today that the 60CS would start shipping Feb. 23rd. Probably depends on the vendor and where they are in the queue for receiving shipments and sending out shipments. Quote Link to comment

+RocketMan
Yesterday, GPSDiscount updated their 60CS availability information to this: Garmin has moved the date to mid February 2004. Our best advice, order it now and wait. The 60CS is going to be a big seller, if you don't get in on the first batch, you could be waiting another month. You have been warned. We will not charge your credit card until we ship the order to you. Quote Link to comment

This means your order will leave our warehouse around March 1st. We are hoping Garmin does not move this release date back any further, but we cannot guarantee this will be the case.
