Any Backpack Recommendations?

I also change the size of my pack according to the type of cache.

For real urban micros, I stuff my gear in my pockets.

For caches in parks or ones that do not involve a long hike, I use an Eastport gear bag on a shoulder strap. Mine is like the one here but all black.

For longer treks that require me to take water, first aid kit, etc, I use the Coleman xponent lumbar pack.

If it's a full blown camping/backpacking outing, I breakout my Northface Spectrum pack

I like Jandd packs. I have a backpack from them that lasted through Nepal and Thailand and hardly looks worse for the wear. Depending on length of trip I use the water bottle holder on the side or a camelback type insert in the internal sleeve designed for that purpose. I love backpacks - this one is by far the favorite (sorry I don't know it's name). I think the company's name is Jandd mountaineering. They are a small company and they are awesome!

dadgum! The Joefrog Monkey post makes me wet myself every time!

Fact is I'm so disappointed in the packpacks I find I'm about to make my own. Ripstop Nylon is cheap and we already have a sewing machine. This should be fun! (Maybe funny, if I do anything really bad I'll post a picture for the enjoyment of the community.)

 Glad to know that even though I just found this thread, I've already contributed in many ways... :(

FWIW (and I haven't read the entire thread yet), I just got a military-style CamelBak Mule a few days ago off Ebay for $50-something bucks. I bid on this same pack back in the summer and was consistently outbid for $70 and more. Wintertime is a GOOD thing for buying outdoor gear! This thing looks great -- haven't tried it yet, but will do so this weekend, hopefully!!

As some of the previous posts have mentioned...I love my Kelty RedWing as a day pack...more than enough room for a lot of gear. I also like using a Camelback Mule...can carry a lot of water with adequate room for some small items.
