poikää & butterfly
Butterfly and I have found two caches that are not part of Groundspeak or geocaching.com. One was found by accident by a local cacher and we found the same one.... it seemed to be placed by a registered user. The other was found by using coordinates found in a log at Flack's Lake cache. As interesting and adventurous as these were for us, we wonder how many others are like these elsewhere? The mystery cache we last found was quite a hike through some beautiful country, so much that we think it should be a geuine geocache! We have no idea who placed it as we could not find his nickname on geocaching. Rouge geocachers? Quote Link to comment
+Team GPSaxophone
It is possible that it was a non-approved cache here. If the logbook had recent entries, I would say it might be from a different geocaching site. Have you checked navicache.com? They have relatively few caches, but they do have a few that are not listed here. Quote Link to comment
+TeamK-9
It's not unheard of for cachers to post their own special unlisted caches, and then list the coords in cache logs, cache cards, or in their own cache... Quote Link to comment
+WaldenRun
A well-known RI caching TEAM has a "bonus cache" which is listed only on their WebSite. Also in RI, an Eastern Mountain Sports store has a "sample" geocache that they send customers after. It is unlisted. A caching friend of mine ran into it while going after a listed cache. Up here in MA, an unlisted cache was found by cachers looking for a stage of a multi. That cache was meant to be listed but never made it to the site. Also in MA, a cache was hidden and the coordinates were left in some listed caches. A few people found that one before it was turned into a listed cache. I recently found an unapproved cache that could be triangulated from the travel bugs placed into it. It has to be moved due to proximity issues, so who knows when it will be listed. That's all I can remember for now. -WR Quote Link to comment
