+DespicableD2 Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 (edited) I've been using mobipocket for transfering the cache pages to my Pocket PC as per the GeoCache web site. Now I have several different e-bool readers installed for various other e-book programs. Is there another program that will "easily" transfer all the info into the pocket Pc as Mobireader does? Has anyone used Microsoft pocket reader and how? Suggestions? Lets keep it easy without too much conversion software in-between. I would like to be able to do searches for caches by GCXXX as well as key words, as well as more easily use the hints that are put into the appendix section. Many thanks Edited January 13, 2004 by DespicableD2 Quote
+Renegade Knight Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 GPXview and GPXsonar both directly read GPX files and replace Mobi. Sonar does more but view exports pushpin files (hint hint geo!) for MS S&T. Quote
+DomHeknows Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 (edited) i have both gpxview and sonar installed as they can both read the gpx files and get slightly different ui's. They are not that big so there is no harm having both on pda. Ditch mobipocket and get one of the two mentioned previously (although you really need to be a premium member to get the best out of these apps) Edited January 13, 2004 by DomHeknows Quote
JJeep Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 I'll probably get boos & hisses for this one, but... I just don't have the money for a Premium GC.com membership, so I save the text of the cache page & paste it into MS Word & from there I downloaded a plugin that will write directly to an ebook .lit file. This is all I really need for a quick refresher on what I'm looking for! Hope this freebie helps fellow cheapskate cachers! Quote
+lnk3d Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 GPXView here, have had lots of problems w/ GPXSonar so far. As to saving the pages to MS Word then exporting them to a .lit file.... Imho pay the 30 bux and get it in GPX Format, is going to save you a ton of time and effort not to mention get alot more detail in the GPX file than exporting to MS Word. Additionally, it helps support GC.com for all of their efforts, bandwidth, server costs, etc. Lnk3d - Administrator - Get Lost(in)Nebraska http://www.getlostne.us Quote

GPX Sonar here. Working great. Do the math. Time-vs-Dollars. I can get 500 caches on my PDA in the same time I can copy, paste, and download one web page. That gives me lots more time for cacheing, chasing, cheshireing,.... Quote
+DespicableD2 Posted January 16, 2004 Author Posted January 16, 2004 Thanks for the help, mobipocket was driving me crazy! Have DL'd both GPXVIEW & GPXSONAR and both seem to work like champs. Too bad GC.COM hasn't teamed up with them more for the great work they've done with the gpx data. Again thanks and I agree, either or both are great ... in fact I installed both and use the the same gpx files so I can continue to test the differences. Quote
+-=(GEO)=- Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 lnk3d... Just wondering: what problems did you have w/ GPXSonar? It would be nice to get such feedback to learn what's wrong (if anything) so that it can be fixed. I've found that in many cases, problems come down to user errors or the simple fact that the docs get ignored... Regards, Fabien. Quote
+DomHeknows Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 any chance the field notes could get saved on exit rather than having to hit save? I went to a virtual today and realised when I got home that the information i wrote down wasn't stored anymore! Hopefully i got it sufficiently correct from memory to get the cache accepted as found. +-=(GEO)=- Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 DomHeknows... Easy enough to do... Next release. Regards, Fabien. Quote
+Rosco Bookbinder Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 when I got home that the information i wrote down wasn't stored anymore! Hopefully i got it sufficiently correct from memory to get the cache accepted as found. Ask GEO to put a digital camera in there also....ehehe. I have used mine on more than one ocassion to record the info on a virtual. Especially those history makers or plaques. Gud ideer huh geO Quote
+Rosco Bookbinder Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 GPXSonar and Mapopolis. And add one more to the list. GSAK. It's getting better all the time with gpsr uploading coming soon. Talk about throwing EasyGPS out the window. GSAK has more features and options than pretty much anything. And it saves GPX files the way they should be. Not trashed.... Mapopolis is fantastic. I use it to get to the area of a cache then reach out the window with my GPSr to see if I ran over it....eehehe..... Quote
+TerraTrekkers Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 My son-in-law says the GPXSonar and Mapopolis set up makes it too easy. He says it's cheating. Quote

If only GEO could get the Mapoplis people to release some of the code to him so he could put the highly requested option of loading a wp from GPXSonar onto the Mapo map. Then it would be SOOOOOoooooooooo cool. Quote
