thcri Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 I did a search for Archived, looked at the FAQ's and don't find an explanation. What is an archived cache, just what it is, closed no longer there? murph Quote
The_Brownies Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 (edited) Basically the term means the cache is no longer active. I.e. you cannot log a find to it. You can still view the page, and read why the cache was archived. If someone did find the cache, their log would remain on the archive page which is good because if this did not happen some of my find stats would start going down. +MissJenn Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 (edited) An ARCHIVED cache is, essentially a dead cache. One or more of the below is true: It is no longer there it was never supposed to be there at all it might still be out there (geolitter) but the owner stopped playing it is an event cache that is now in the past EDIT: Brownies were faster than I! +Prime Suspect Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Unless it's been changed recently, you can log an archived cache. Quote
+sbell111 Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 (edited) Wouldn't it be a drag to not be able to log a find to an archived cache? Just imagine taking a trip across country or overseas. You're gone for a couple of weeks. During the trip you hike for twenty miles in Africa heat to find a 5/5 cache that hasn't been found in a year. You are succesful. You trade McSomethings and sign the logbook. While you were there, you put the log in a ziploc to make sure it doesn't get wet and replaced the broken pencil. Before you get back home, the owner (who planted the cache while he was on vacation) archives the cache because of previous DNFs. Shouldn't you be able to log your find and bask in the glory? Edit: I felt like blabbing more Edited January 13, 2004 by sbell111 Quote
