+redprotege5 Posted January 9, 2004 Posted January 9, 2004 I was reading up on some of the past travelbugs that I have found and noticed that one of them was moved to the Travelbug Graveyard. I was surprised that the Graveyard adds mileage to the bug's stats... why? Would thare be any way to keep this from happening? My reasoning is that if a bug dies, no mileage should be added. Example: 1/5/2004 _______ placed it in Travel Bug Graveyard 7813.8mi E 1/5/2004 _______ retrieved it from Saugus Power Line #0 The "Captain Morgan" travel bug was reported not in the cache "Saugus Power Line #0" back on April 26. No one logged removing it, though, so I'm moving it to the "Travel Bug Graveyard" virtual cache. 4/14/2003 ____________ placed it in Saugus Power Line #0 560.8mi SW 3/28/2003 ____________ retrieved it from Stumpy Returns Taking him to sunny Califonia! In the above example, there are 7253 extra miles added to the bug's travels. Just curious, Jason Krotine (RedProtege5)
Keystone Posted January 9, 2004 Posted January 9, 2004 With the recent re-design of the travel bug section of the website, a travel bug graveyard is no longer a necessity. A bug owner now has the ability to pick up the bug out of a cache or a geocacher's hands and to then place it in "an unknown location" -- limbo, so to speak. If the bug ever resurfaces, it can re-enter the game without mileage being added. Therefore, putting a travel bug into one of the TB graveyards is now just an option for the owner. If the bug owner cares about mileage, don't move it to the graveyard, put it in limbo instead. The graveyard was just an informal solution and not a website feature.
+Prime Suspect Posted January 9, 2004 Posted January 9, 2004 (edited) There's nothing special about the graveyard - it has to have a coordinate like any other cache. So moving a tbug there will add mileage. As KA said, it's better to put it into limbo than to use the graveyard. Edited January 9, 2004 by Prime Suspect
+Jeremy Posted January 9, 2004 Posted January 9, 2004 You can also delete those logs to reset the mileage to the correct number.
+ChrisCindy Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 The Graveyard has character though and does add some spice to the whole bit about having a bug get KIA.
