How will you feel when some innocent child pokes his eye out with it?

Or when a criminal on the chain gang holds his "boss" hostage with it?

Maybe a teenage gang will start collecting them...throw a handful into traffic and cause an unsuspecting motorist a blowout, resulting in a chain reaction accident.

B)

Seriously, I think they would make good trading items. I've left a few nondescript lapel pins in caches, myself. B);)

Hey Halden I too was very interested in some sort of custom lapel pins until I started looking into the pricing. I can't buy 400 pins to keep the price down and I really don't think I could get rid of that many ;) Most companies also nail you with the mold fee unless you buy and insane amount of pins and it just wasn't price effective for me. You'll also notice the bigger the pin (and most rectangular designs) are more expensive than the normal square pin. I gave up.

edit: lol I said price effective; meant cost effective

I have already done two personalized ones myself. I have one that has a GGA logo and a second one that has my avatar with some added text. I will shoot a photo of them tonight and will add them to this post later. The puppymonster pin is one of my favorite signature items and will fit in a 35MM microcache.

Dang it - we think alike! I was going to post something sarcastic just like that. B)

mtn-man where did you get yours made at and are they costly?

I recently dipped into my Police Patch/Pin collection and started leaving patches and pins in some of the local caches here.

I'm not leaving any of my police patches in caches.....those are too dang hard to get, what with the police and their guns and clubs and pepper spray and all......they really put up a fight! B)

I had thought about leaving some of my retired KS MICT (paramedic) lapel pins and patches as sig items, but I really don't have as many as I thought. I'd run out too quickly. I like your design, though, Halden. Very nice! ;)

LOL...well if you are going through that much trouble, then you shouldn't only come out with a patch, go for the gun!

I was doing a lot of patch trading a few years ago and have gotten a lot of some from the federal prison I worked at and a couple other places. I started leaving them in some of the caches along with some other duplicate patches I have. I know longer am doing any trading or am not doing so right now. The patches were sitting in a box in the basement and I got the idea that they would be neat trade items. some may think they are cheesy, but if you were to try and buy one from a collector they would run you anywhere from $4-10 a piece easily. So they are pretty valuable trade items. Thing is, that I haven't really traded many of them. I've left them in caches and took nothing.

hey sorry for bringing up an old topic but this company:

www.qualitylapelpins.com

He does small orders and has a flat rate of $120 for orders up to 40 lapel pins (plus $10 shipping). Most companies dont even do orders that small. If I had the extra money I would so be ordering mine right now

btw price varies depending on your size and amount of colors used. E-mail with your design for official price quote)

I had some caching business cards printed as a sig item and added a Visit Nebraska pin to them. These seem popular when I cache out of state. All the ones I placed in San Diego have already been taken.

This approach is really cost effective as the business cards can be fairly inexpensive if your design is simple. The pins are often either free from tourism boards or not very expensive.

Just went on Ebay and searching the Wholesale lots section, you can find 100 custom buttons for 18 dollars.

Sorry to take so long to post woodsters. My camera battery compartment has a broken pin and now will not stay closed. It was a struggle to get these photos.

The pins I use for my sig items were custom made and I got 250 of each. They cost about $2.00 each or so. I honestly don't remember. The photo pin cost more since it is full color. I get paid sometimes with barter credits and I bought my pins within the barter network. The company I bought them from is up in Syracuse, NY.

Here are my two pins. The J.C. pin is a little dark. I will lighten it up on the next run most likely. That will be about a year from now though. King Boreas got one of my J.C. pins and made a TBug out of it!
