Heard a few shots in the distance, checked the clock and then dozed off with the youngest kid on my side. He managed to wake me up at 5:30 this morning (which is much better than the 4:30 he woke me up yesterday). Got the black-eyed peas and ham hocks in the crockpot. They might even be ready for lunch. This is the first time I had to ring in the new year away from home since I had to work the owl shift, as you can see my post is 9:07 am EST. We didn't have it too bad at work last night, but as the old saying goes, (something to the effect) "The ones you are with bringing in the new year will be the ones you will be with the rest of the year."
