+Rosco Bookbinder Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 Ok I may be wrong but here goes. I like the idea of being able to make an entry the center coord so you can see distance of caches from there. BUT, what it does is takes away from your original setting like your home. Or......... What am I doing wrong?? Thanks Fabian... Quote
+Prime Suspect Posted December 30, 2003 Posted December 30, 2003 You don't have to change your home coordinates. Just go to the search page and enter in a set of coordinates and hit the Search button. The distances shows will be from the coordinates you entered, not your home coordinates. Quote

Are we talking about the same software? I'm not changing anything. I have my home coords entered in the "Set Center Coords" section. When in the field and I click the "Set As Center" button it takes the highlighted entry and makes it now the center coord. When you go back to your "Set Center Coords" section the entry is now the one that was your "Set As Center". As for the search page, on my version a window comes up to type in a name. By the way I'm talking about GPXSonar. I believe you are talking about the GC.com web page. I believe Fabian knows what I'm talking about... Edited December 30, 2003 by Rosco Bookbinder Quote
SBPhishy Posted December 30, 2003 Posted December 30, 2003 What context are you even talking about? Quote
+Rosco Bookbinder Posted December 30, 2003 Author Posted December 30, 2003 What context are you even talking about? WE ARE TALKING ABOUT GPXSonar...... Ok let me try it again. I have an entry in the "Set Center Coords" as my home that way when I load a file gpx file into the program I can see how far away a cache is from my home. While out in the field when I find a cache I use the "Set As Center" option on the cache I just found so I can see how far away another cache is from where I am. The problem is that when you do the "Set As Center" it removes your "Set Center Coords" and replaces it with the "Set As Center" coords. So when you are done for the day you have to re-enter your home coords again. And while we are at it, why does the program keep putting a "2" at the end of my home coords when I enter them. My last three are .927 and .196. I enter them into the program and it always adds a "2" to the end of them. HUH???? Where's GEO???? Quote
+-=(GEO)=- Posted December 31, 2003 Posted December 31, 2003 (edited) Rosco... I guess I'm not allowed to unplug for a few days anymore ? I understand what you want. I'll add the ability to 'Bookmark' named coords to the app for the next release. Oh, and don't sweat the extra digit in the coords. Regards, Fabien. Edited December 31, 2003 by -=(GEO)=- Quote
+Prime Suspect Posted December 31, 2003 Posted December 31, 2003 What context are you even talking about? WE ARE TALKING ABOUT GPXSonar...... Well, actually, YOU were talking about GPXSonar, though none of the rest of us had any way of knowing that. Quote

Just don't be gone so long in our time of need.. That will be a great addition to the program having a "bookmark" entry. So where does it end? How about the idea of being able to send the GPSr data to GPXSonar for instant waypoints? That should be really easy. Again, Thanks Quote
+Rosco Bookbinder Posted December 31, 2003 Author Posted December 31, 2003 BTW folks I figued that with the title having GEO's name in it would give it away. Opps. Sorry. Quote
+-=(GEO)=- Posted December 31, 2003 Posted December 31, 2003 (edited) Rosco... How about the idea of being able to send the GPSr data to GPXSonar for instant waypoints? This is already possible using the feature to import GPX files saved using EasyGPS. In other words do this: 1. download the waypoints from your GPS unit using EasyGPS. 2. Save the data as a GPX file. 3. Create a new cache using the cache manager : My Stuff\Caches 4. Edit the 'Waypoints' property. 5. Import the GPX file that you just saved with EasyGPS Voila. EasyGPS is the lingua franca here rather than writing a bunch of proprietary modules to import waypoints from all sorts of GPS receivers...That would be way too much work. Isn't it what you are trying to accomplish? Edited December 31, 2003 by -=(GEO)=- Quote

Edit it to say what? #5. Isn't that going to be the same file I just downloaded from the GPSr? I guess I need a bit of clairify. Thanks Quote

Thanks #4 Have you actually clicked on the 'waypoints' property of a cache create with the cache manager? Try it. It will become obvious. #5 Yes, the 'waypoints' property of a cache allows you to suck in a GPX file containing waypoints previously d/l'ed from your GPS receiver. Saves a whole lot of typing Quote
+Rosco Bookbinder Posted January 1, 2004 Author Posted January 1, 2004 Well I must say that Geo sure knows a lot about GPXSonar He has me all straightened out now on my questions. So....... If you need any questions answered just ask me.....opps...ehehe....him. (Just remember he unplugs his computer once in a while) Thanks again Fabien. I'm trying some of the things we discussed and other than that last question I had for you I can see how the new manager will work quite well. For a re-cap on what can be done: If you have field made waypoints on your gpsr, download them to EasyGPS (edit as needed), save them as a GPX file then upload them to your PDA or what ever you use. You can then import them into your My Stuff/caches. No typing at all. If you are a premium member of GC.com and make an "All my caches" query, you can load them into the cache manager and see them right in front of you. Talk about total cache managment!! Quote
