Historical Site Links

Recommended Posts

I'm interested in developing a couple of "trails" about famous people in the past - e.g. where they were born, where they worked, where they were when unusual events happened to them, where they died. Of course, other GPS users could add to the trails , if they know other link houses, places and sites.

I've seen the "stone circles" pages, and wondered if you think these themed trails are something similar that might be allowed on the Geocaching site? Maybe an answer to a question could be provided as "proof" that the person has been there, as an alternative to actually burying a cache - some of these places might be unsuitable for a real cache.

What do you think?

Just to let you know that cache should never be buried - we always talk about "placing" a ccahe as buring would be environmentally hostile.

What you are talking about is a multi-virtual cache - there are some of these in the UK. According to GC.com rules your trail should lead to a physical unless there is nowhere to place a physical (even a micro will do). The best bet is to discuss your idea with one of the moderators (Eckington or Lactodorium) and see if they will accept it or what you would need to do to change it to meet the guidelines.

hope that helps

We've placed several caches at Stone Circles and they are all virtual. We've visited most of the UK Stone Circle caches and they are all either virtual or offset ie you need to find some information to lead you elsewhere where the physical cache is hidden (but, as C&M said, never buried).

A good solution for your multi-cache would be to ask people to find some information at each location and use that information as a code to lead them to a final physical location away from the historically sensitive sites.

In this particular case, distance may be an issue - I guess that some of your trails could stretch over many miles (or even 100s of miles), so there will be relatively few visitors. This isn't necessarily a problem, just that less people will enjoy it.
