+HartClimbs Posted December 4, 2003 Posted December 4, 2003 Couple more cold days and we'll have to drop the difficulty rating on all our swamp caches by two points! Here's comes the snow!!!! Quote
+JMBella Posted December 4, 2003 Posted December 4, 2003 Does anyone actually slow down or stops caching when it gets cold? I hope I don't turn into a wuss this winter, I plan on caching right through. I do have goals after all. In fact I plan on grabbing all those swamp caches I've been putting off like This one. Read the logs. Quote
+Polgara Posted December 4, 2003 Posted December 4, 2003 Looks like that snow is coming this weekend!!!! News just mentioned 2 storms on the way! I can't wait! I love snow, and so does the snow caching dog...its the bugs I hate! Quote
mortonfox Posted December 4, 2003 Posted December 4, 2003 Does anyone actually slow down or stops caching when it gets cold? I still went out last winter anyway, even when the temperature dropped to a single digit in Fahrenheit. And I wasn't the only one. I met a few other cachers who were also out there when it was freezing! Quote
+The Leprechauns Posted December 4, 2003 Posted December 4, 2003 Ahhhh, I love winter caching: No bugs No sweat dripping onto screens or printouts or logbooks No tree cover = clear satellite signal and better scenic views from hilltops Little or no ground cover = easier bushwacking and cache finding (if no snow) Snow cover = new and different challenge Fewer muggles in the area Fewer hamsters in caches That cool, crisp quietness of a still winter's day in the woods 51 cache finds last year in winter conditions. Hopefully many more this season! Quote
+robert Posted December 4, 2003 Posted December 4, 2003 Definitely sounds like a lot of fun, just dress properly! Quote
+JMBella Posted December 5, 2003 Posted December 5, 2003 Screw it. I'm going out right now. In the dark and in the snow. Bye! Quote
+Patuxent Pirates Posted December 5, 2003 Posted December 5, 2003 I think we'll go in the cold which I don't mind, but the snow will definitely keep us indoors. Dry and cold is nooooo problem! Quote
+robert Posted December 6, 2003 Posted December 6, 2003 I think we'll go in the cold which I don't mind, but the snow will definitely keep us indoors. Dry and cold is nooooo problem! No soup for you! Quote
ucmike Posted December 6, 2003 Posted December 6, 2003 i found myself caching alone a lot during last winter. lauren is a warm weather trooper, not so much in the cold. strangely enough she loves skiing and i can't stand it. Quote
+HartClimbs Posted December 6, 2003 Author Posted December 6, 2003 I love caching in the cold. Actually - I love anything in the cold! (ok, so I don't LOVE shoveling my driveway!). When our caching/hiking, it's just important to stay dry. I highly recommend snowshoes worn over hip waders while attempting partially frozen swamp caches! Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow......... Quote
+briansnat Posted December 6, 2003 Posted December 6, 2003 Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow......... Enough already. I shoveled the driveway 3 times today. And slid into a guardrail on the way home from cutting a Christmas tree. Think I'll be getting the snowshoes out tomorrow though, if this keeps up. I'd hide a snow friendly cache, but the GPS is in the shop. Quote

+DustyJacket Posted December 7, 2003 Posted December 7, 2003 Our snow melted already. I hit 6 geocaches today. BTW - when the snow comes, micros go up to level 6 in difficulty. Quote
