+Seasider
Does anyone know what the oldest (or possibly the first?) cache in UK is? The first cache in the UK & Republic of Ireland (according to GUK search engine) was this one laid on 15/12/00:- Scotland's First GCF0 Note the 4 character waypoint!! England's first were both laid on the same day 14/01/01 :- Burrow Mound GC164 View from Coombe Hill GC171 Wales' first was laid on 17/02/01 :- The First In Wales GC2BA Ireland's first was laid on 18/02/01 :- Kyle Cache 1 GC322 With the exception (possibly) of Burrow Mound, all appear to be still active. Right that's enough stats for one day! Seasider Quote Link to comment

Krazy Kats
Do you think it's enough of a challenge for Woodsmoke to get up there and be the 8th????????? Edited December 2, 2003 by Krazy Kats Quote Link to comment
+Pharisee
Do you think it's enough of a challenge for Woodsmoke to get up there and be the 8th????????? If you've read all the 'negative' stuff he said about something a simple as 'The Grockles Gumbo' series, you'll know that he'd never tackle anything THAT difficult Quote Link to comment
+Omally
Wonder if Woodsmoke would try to get his bike up there? Quote Link to comment
+Teasel
With the exception (possibly) of Burrow Mound, all appear to be still active. Unfortunately, that's just because G:UK only lists archived caches if you yourself have actually found them, otherwise they stay hidden. In fact there are a couple of caches even older than this, which are now sadly deceased... The oldest I can find (if it counts - check out "Steve"'s profile!) is: GC4E England's First! - hidden on 06/06/2000 Then we have: GCF0 Scotland's First - hidden 15/12/2000 - first Scottish cache and still surviving! GC144 Fringe of Epping Forest - hidden 07/01/2001 - first "proper" English cache? GC164 - Burrow Mound - hidden 14/01/2001 - the oldest surviving English cache (by a whisker!) GC171 View from Coombe Hill - hidden 14/01/2001 - still survives GC177 - Tim & Jon's 1st Stash - hidden 14/01/2001 The first finds in the UK were logged on "Fringe of Epping Forest" by Slangford and Growbag, on 13th January 2001. +klaus23
Again, you're all wrong ;-) The oldest cache on the two islands- and this one is one of the first in the world, is the "Geocache" near Bray, Dublin, Ireland. It has been archived since July, but you can view the listing here: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=67 Quote Link to comment
+klaus23
It was planted in June 2000 Quote Link to comment

+choccymandm
Noticed that this ol'thread got revived a few days ago and strangely enough made a small discovery tonight .... England's First Cache it's archived, doesn't look like anyone ever visited it (if it ever existed??) and perhaps stranger it's is owned by Jeremy - not sure if he may own all the old ones though - but still prehaps it makes it the oldest listed cache in England ... unless someone else finds an older one. +Learned Gerbil
It was created to test software - there has never been a cache there. The coordinates are in the middle of an area of waist high thistle and grass and is well overlooked by houses so is not a great place for a regullar or micro as has been suggested.
