I Found Another 100 Year-old Disk!

Congratulations! I don't believe I've found one over 100 years old yet. In my area, 65 years is the typical age. I think I've found some older than that, but haven't come up with an easy way to scour my finds for the exact oldest.

One question: I noticed that on you log you posted coords of N 33 27.417 (very close to NGS published coords) and in your official recovery note you listed N 33 37.417. Is that a typo?

Yeah... it's a typo :) I caught it right after submitting it to the NGS. I emailed Deb right after submitting it, hopefully, she will change it for me.

Happy hunting everyone!

I'm delighted to report finding a century old BM in Northern California, next to the Golden Gate Bridge at an 1890's gun emplacement. The enclosure required bailing out, and until I wiped away the mud, I thought the flush bottom was empty or just a chisel cross. But the metal BM was there with the date on it-- 1892 ! Old BM's are seemingly rare in this state.

Congratulations on such a nice find.

We haven't found any disk dated prior to 1932. We have found 21 disks from the 1930's though.

I don't think there are any near here that are that old!

We've been lucky enough to find 6 benchmarks that dated from 1899 back to 1871, but they are either rock cairns or some type of post (metal or wooden) with an inscription on it.

Again, congrats on the 100 year old disk.
